Over 100 years old, the Grand Galvez Resort & Spa still dazzlingly impresses its guests with glamour and style.
The Grand Galvez is a AAA 4-diamond historic beachfront hotel on the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast. Its history dates back to the early 1900s when it was first built. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Its historical decor inside the hotel was eye-catching, and the gorgeous crystal red chandeliers in the hotel bar delighted my senses in a big way. We also enjoyed Sunday brunch and loved the convenient location close to many attractions.
If you didn’t know, Grand Galvez turned one hundred years old in 2021, giving them the right to add “Grand” before their name—they renamed the hotel Grand Galvez Resort & Spa. The hotel has also joined the Marriott Autograph Collection, which gives guests many more perks! The hotel was renovated when this happened, and numerous original features, including the original pink paint, were restored.
Disclosure: Grand Galvez and Visit Galveston hosted my son and me for one night, which included their fabulous Sunday Brunch. All opinions are my own.
Texas Travel Talk’s Grand Galvez Hotel Review On Galveston Island
I believe anyone will fall in love with the feeling of luxury throughout the hotel, its elegant design, white and black marble flooring, and royal burgundy carpet. If you plan to enjoy the spa, you’re in for a luxurious treat at this relaxing oasis.
Being across the street from the beach and blocks away from the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, your family will love staying here.
My son and I enjoyed being their guest for the night.
Also, it’s said that the Grand Galvez was haunted back then and is still today one of the most haunted places in Texas.

Room Amenities at the Grand Galvez
The hotel’s guest rooms have been updated with a refreshed design that depicts the property’s history.
Our room had two double beds, two benches, a desk, a bathroom with a rainfall shower, a nook for coffee and ice, a mini fridge, and a cozy robe. It was comfy and spotless, with lavish décor and nice beds. I loved the room’s look as it reminded me of coastal waves, and that’s precisely why we came to Galveston—to ride the waves!
My son loved our view of the Gulf of Mexico the most.

Grand Galvez Hotel Review on Activities
- Swim a lap or two in the saltwater pool
- Enjoy a swim-up bar (seasonal)
- Relax in the adult-only outdoor spa jacuzzi
- Use the grills
- Fitness center
- Go across the street to the beach (The hotel has its own private beach; see below)
My son found the spa jacuzzi and yelled across the pool for me to check it out. I stayed there the entire time. It’s hidden behind a backdrop of trees, and the water was just the right temperature.
On-site Restaurant At Grand Galvez Resort & Spa
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at Monarch.
Sunday Brunch is from 11 am to 2 pm. Reservations are required—nice casual (no shorts). Use Open Table or call the restaurant. It serves everything imaginable: seafood, pasta, omelets, vegetables, desserts, breads, soups, rib-eyes, and more. You will want to come hungry and enjoy every bit of this luxury and sophisticated brunch.
Our Sunday brunch reservation was at 2 pm, and it was everything my son and I thought it would be. To him, the more crab legs, the better. He didn’t know how to crack them, but I think he learned pretty fast—but he got it all over his pretty white shirt!
What We Are Loving
We loved that the beach is directly across the street from the hotel and the fantastic walk on the property as we were walking to the beach. But what we liked even better was having our own private beach. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are available to reserve. They set them up for you and take them down.
What is Near the Grand Galvez Resort & Spa?
In addition to the beach across the street and its private beach, Pier 21 (Pleasure Pier), The Strand in downtown Galveston, Moody Gardens, the fantastic Schlitterbahn Waterpark, and some of the best restaurants in Galveston are a short drive away.
If you are interested in exploring more of Galveston Island, we recommend these places as well:

Anything Else Worth Mentioning
This Gumdrop Jelly Reef is a sight to see. You can read about how coral reefs support sea life and how debris can ruin the reefs. This structure is in front of the hotel, and there is a sign about the structure.
Galveston Island State Park
Galveston Island State Park is roughly a 13-mile drive from the hotel. It supports habitats, beaches, prairies, and wetlands. If you want to visit all the state parks, put this one on your list for another day at the beach. We enjoyed the park; it wasn’t too hot, and there were showers to wash off our feet and bodies. Also, there are plenty of tables and grills for a family picnic. I also heard the fishing is pretty good there – so bring your pole.
