If you’re looking for a fun afternoon activity while on South Padre Island, make sure you check out the sand castle building lessons taught by Andy Hancock. Once we were signed up for this experience, I’ll admit I had no idea what we were in for, but the outcome was far more than I expected!
This post was a part of a sponsored trip to South Padre Island, Texas. The partnership included lodging, food & beverage, and compensation for the event. The opinions reflected are honest and unbiased based upon the individual blogger experience.
Andy Hancock is an award-winning sculptor who specializes in generating unique ideas in art and sculpture, and he spent the afternoon with us to share his wealth of knowledge. Andy’s upbeat attitude and sense of humor made the day even more fun. I loved how patient he was with the children (and adults) in our group.
Andy offers a variety of classes ranging in both skill level and length of the lesson. I appreciated the fact that Andy spoke to my children on their level and encouraged the fact that “creativity is only limited by the imagination”. We learned some very interesting techniques and put them to the test!
I had no idea we were building sand castles for three hours because everyone was so engaged in the activity. My 13 year old loved every minute of this. My 10 year old was happy to “work” to collect buckets of water and sand, and my 7 year old couldn’t wait to test his own theory and have Andy show him a more practical way to get the same result.
It was fun to watch everyone work together to help get the castles built. This would be an exciting team building activity, whether you are participating as a family, a business or friends.
Fun fact: Once you take part in one of these lessons, you can borrow Andy’s buckets and shovels to create more masterpieces along the beach. (Toolkits are provided to participants.)
