12+ Reasons To Visit South Padre Island in the Off-Season

reasons to visit south padres island in the off-season

Here are 12+ reasons why visiting South Padre Island in winter will stretch your vacation dollars.

Top reasons to visit South Padre Island in the off-season. South Padre Island is always open, no matter the time of year. There are many benefits to visiting the island in the off-season. For one, milder weather; two, it’s not as crowded; and three, hotel rates are lower. And don’t forget that the birds are migrating there to keep warm for the winter.

The best time to visit South Padre Island is anytime. Still, the off-season is from September to February for pleasant weather (average temperature is 79 degrees during the day and 65 degrees at night) and fewer crowds. But besides these two excellent reasons, you’ll get cheaper hotel rates, and perhaps even the attractions are less expensive. SPI’s off-season does not impact shopping, fun, or good food. Everything is still open all year.

The peak season in South Padre is Memorial Day to Labor Day. If you’re wondering about the peak hurricane season in SPI, it’s August to early October.

Many winter Texans migrate to the island to escape the cold we sometimes get!
