TF Vineyard & Winery – Boyd, TX

Explore these under‑the‑radar treasures scattered across North Texas.

North Texas is growing. Everywhere you turn, between Dallas and Fort Worth, and beyond, there is a new building going up, a highway or bridge being built, and more people moving in than we locals might want. But what lies in and around all this newness might be a hidden gem for some. I, a local, dug a little deep to uncover a few hidden gems in North Texas for our readers to check out.

From lesser-known museums and historical sites to quirky attractions that offer unique experiences, and hidden parks and natural settings not commonly visited, your family’s summer will be packed with road trips.

Hidden Gems in North Texas

Beyond the big‑city bustle, you’ll find quiet lakes, historic main streets, prairie preserves, and quirky small‑town surprises that feel wonderfully under‑the‑radar. Let’s discover!

TF Vineyard & Winery

Have you been to Boyd, TX, lately? There are quite a few things to do in Boyd. Did you know there’s a winery down a rocky road that serves up a good selection of Texas dry barrel-aged reds and sweet whites? Yep, and they serve good pizzas and charcuterie boards. They also hold several fun events, including pruning and harvesting throughout the year. Visit the website for the calendar of events. TF Vineyard.

Demases Farm in Boyd, TX

If you’re going to the winery, stop by the farm stand to check out the veggies and fruits for sale. Also, jams, jellies, hot sauce, and more. In April-May, pick-your-own strawberries are available. Buy a bucket for $5, pick strawberries, then pay by the pound. We got in on the last weekend of it.

Demases Farm is in its 4th-generation. The grandfather of it all came from Greece and started the farm in 1919. The farm moved around some, but in 1987, it moved to Boyd – its last move. Address: 496 CR 4757. Contact: 940-577-0203. Not far from the winery.

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park

It’s open! With a lake …and mountains! Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is Texas’s newest state park in over 18 years. Enjoy over 16 miles of scenic trails, rock formations, and fishing and kayaking at the 91-acre Tucker Lake.

While there, indulge in the famous chicken-fried steak at Mary’s Cafe in Strawn.

LBJ National Grassland

Step inside Wise County, just outside of Decatur, where nature plays a huge role at the 20k+ protected acres Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) National Grassland. Under the care of the U.S. Forest Service, it’s a beloved North Texas haven for hikers, horseback riders, primitive campers, anglers, and hunters seeking wide‑open solitude.

Texas Goodies, Wine, and Boutiques

You’ve heard of the Texas Motor Speedway, right? Most have. Well, it’s directly in the vicinity of a growing town called Justin.

Justin was once a small country town, but no more. It’s growing, and with that comes some great shopping and dining. Right in downtown is Texas Patina, Grapes to Wine, Classy Cactus Antique Mall, JJ Designs, a darling quilt shop, Outlaw Burgers, Margaritas, and more. So whether you’re visiting the Speedway, the boot store, or coming for the day, stop in for lunch and shopping. There are quite a few brand-new colorful murals in town.

Also, people are going crazy over farmers’ markets. Justin has its own on the second weekend of the month until November. The next one is on June 13th on 4th Street.

Texas General Store

Did you know there is a store at Grapevine Mills Mall dedicated to Texas? Yep, it’s called Texas General Store, and they sell anything and everything in a big way – the Texas way! I’m almost positive you’ll find the right gift for your Texas friends or that friend who wishes they could have been with you. Maybe they will sell my book in the store!
