Are you planning a road trip with your mother? Before you start packing your bags, I want to share some awesome ideas with you. My mom and I have been on many road trips together and always have a good time no matter what we do – sometimes, it’s as small as playing cards in our hotel room. Here are six mother-daughter road trips in Texas that we’ve taken over the course of about five years and ten road trip ideas that can make things more fun for the two of you.

My Favorite Mother-Daughter Road Trips In Texas
Mother-daughter road trips are a fun way to spend time together – bonding and creating lasting memories as you drive away from the hustle and bustle of life. Getaways with your mom can mean so much to her. I see how it affects mine.
My Mom
She’s not my best friend – she’s my Mother (mom, I call her)! I take her to places she wouldn’t have gone by herself or places she never dreamed of going to. She ends up having so much fun.
Update: Please take as many road trips with your mom as possible. My mom is now 85 years old, and her health is dwindling. I doubt we will go on any more trips together. It’s sad, but she does get outside. Her favorite thing to do is take care of the lawn. She loves to pull weeds!

Our Best Mother-Daughter Trips In Texas
I’ve been lucky to have a healthy mother who can travel all these years (until now). When she was in her early 80s, she still had wits about her. Though I can see that dwindling and her memory lapses, I hope for at least one more road trip, but we will see.
Let’s dive into these mother-daughter road trips in Texas we’ve taken.
1. A Cabin In Waco, TX
I found a small, cozy cabin outside Waco with a fire pit and walking trails. My Mom also brought her sweet Lily along. Lily is a Chihuahua Yorkie mix who is 15 years old. Lily doesn’t have much life left, so she likes to take her on trips when possible. She doesn’t like leaving her behind at all.
We visited Magnolia Market. This is our third mother-daughter road trip to the Magnolia Market. This first time was when it was relatively new, and I found so much decor to buy for my house. We also had so much fun swinging on the swings outside. The swings are now gone.
We also visited an Amish area down the street from our cabin, where we made a tiny basket from clay. I’m sad that I can not find those pictures of this trip.
While Mom and Lily stayed at the cabin and rested, I rode horseback at Brazos Bluff Ranch. She doesn’t want to do a few activities that I want, like horseback riding, and the time we went to Broken Bow, I went zip lining, and she wasn’t about to do that!
2. The Courtyard By Marriott In San Antonio
This San Antonio trip was about six years ago in the wintertime. We enjoyed a riverboat ride and lunch on the San Antonio River Walk. Not sure where that photo is of her and I freezing our butts off on that riverboat ride. But an enjoyable time nonetheless.
3. We Picked Blueberries In Edom, TX
We took a wonderful day trip picking blueberries in the adorable small town of Edom in East Texas. It was very hot that day, but it was our first time picking blueberries. To make up for it, we enjoyed an ice cream. Blueberry Hill Farm is open in June and July for picking berries. Edom also has a small downtown with quaint boutiques.
Travel Tip: Don’t go on a Monday, because all shops are closed.
4. Celebrate The Holidays In Grapevine, Texas
Grapevine was a day trip for us, as I live only 25 miles from downtown. But if you ever get a chance to take a weekend trip with your mother somewhere fun, go to Grapevine during the holidays. The city spruces up its Main Street as you’ve never seen before. All the stores along the street get all decked out – some more than others. And there is always an outdoor-themed setup (Charlie Brown, the Grinch, etc.) by the gazebo, complete with photo opportunities and fun galore! One year, there was fake snow falling from the sky. 5. Visit Palestine Dogwood Blooms In April
Our mother-daughter trip to Palestine, Texas – an East Texas charming town was fabulous. From gorgeous scenic drives to numerous pines scattered everywhere, seeing the dogwood trees, to local cuisine and a cozy stay in the woods, we completed another trip together. 6. Take A Tour Of Pears In Pearland, Texas

Ideas for a mother-daughter road trip
• Book A Spa Resort Getaway
Many spa resorts in Texas are for everyone’s budget. There may even be one in the city close to you. Austin, TX, has plenty. Take the whole day at a spa to relax, recharge, and get that body massage you deserve. Maybe surprise her with this one.
• Play Board Games All Day Long
Mom and I used to play cards, Skipbo, and Scrabble all the time. So, when we go on road trips, I make sure to bring at least one of these games. After a short hike in the evening, we get into our pajamas and play until we are tired.
• Enjoy Wine Tastings
Wineries and wine-tasting rooms are popping up everywhere. And how fun is it to taste wines to find a favorite? We have enjoyed this activity more than once. Though my mother doesn’t like wine as much as I do, she will taste sweet wine. Go to a town that offers beautiful scenery while sipping on wine. The Texas Hill Country is my favorite place for wine tasting.
• Visit Historic Homes In A Small Town
Visiting small towns is our favorite. We love the downtown vibe in small towns and won’t miss a historical home guided tour. Find a guided tour to take you through a neighborhood full of historic homes and unique buildings. This is always fun during the holidays when the homes are all decked out in fantastic holiday decorations.
• Go To A Big City
Find a hotel in a big city and make reservations at an upscale restaurant – perhaps in the hotel. Better yet, find a restaurant with gorgeous city views, like the Reunion Tower in Dallas. The tower there slowly turns, and you’ll have the best view of downtown Dallas.
• Stroll A Botanical Garden
Spring, when all the beautiful flowers are out, would be an excellent time for you two to enjoy the outdoors and all the pretty flowers. Pick a city with a well-known botanical garden (Fort Worth) and enjoy lunch in the garden while you’re there.
• Stay In A Boutique Hotel
A boutique hotel is not like other hotels. They are quaint, and some are quirky. Usually, one story has a restaurant and bar attached and offers several fun things to do right on the property. The ones I have visited have eating and drinking outside next to a lawn with a fire pit, lawn games, and a swimming pool. Choose the ones with pink doors and comfy robes. • Opt For An Early dinner, Then Go For Ice Cream
No matter where your road trips take you, this idea is one of the best. If your mom loves ice cream, she’ll love this idea. Eat early enough to enjoy two scoops, then walk it off before hitting the hay!
• Take A Scenic Train Ride
Train rides offer stunning vistas or dome cars, classic cars, VIP cars, and many other types of rides. These train rides are usually relaxing, and the scenic views are unmatched. A few that come to mind are the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, New Mexico, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in North Carolina, and the Napa Valley Wine Train in California. While those are not in Texas, The Texas Railroad in Palestine, Texas, is. Mom and I have taken that one, as explained above – it’s a good one in April.

Another Mother-Daughter Road Trip
Even though Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is not in Texas, it was one of our favorite fall trips. We stayed in a gorgeous cabin with views of a running creek with trickling water coming off the rocks. The sounds of that were so peaceful. We also visited a wine-tasting room, had terrific meals, rode around Beavers Bend State Park, and enjoyed that warm, cozy cabin and each other.
