1. Granbury – Near Fort Worth
Enjoy the nightlife and a quaint dinner on the historic town square, which is full of restaurants with outdoor seating, breweries, and boutiques. Then see a show at the Opera. Casa Farina’s on the square is the perfect place for a romantic getaway in Granbury. I stayed there recently and enjoyed the clawfoot tub …all by myself~
A Granbury romantic getaway might be what you need to rekindle your relationship.
2. Brenham – East Texas (best romantic getaway in Texas)
Brenham is one of the most charming towns in East Texas. It boasts beautiful historic buildings, and its downtown area is full of shopping and dining options. You might even catch a live event while you’re there. And, if you’re there during the week, stop by the Blue Bell Creamery for a scoop of ice cream for just $1—share it with your partner.
There are other charming small towns nearby that are teeming with cuteness. I’m sure there are plenty of B&Bs in the area for an intimate stay. Brenham, along with a few other towns on this list, is also included on this list – 15 Small Towns Voted Most Picturesque Small Town In America.
3. Romantic Places To Stay In Gruene, Texas
Gruene is a small, close-knit area of New Braunfels, featuring numerous restaurants and shops all within walking distance. Make reservations at the Gristmill with river views and ask for their best bottle of wine – now that’s romantic. I can’t think of a better small town to visit with a partner. With the Guadalupe River running through it and pleasant weather in that part of Texas, walking along the banks and dipping your toes in the water, freezing or not, would be very special.
The Gruene Cottages, Gruene Mansion Inn, Gruene River Hotel & Retreat, B&Bs, and several vacation rentals are in the area.
For an evening out and maybe some dancing, make plans to dance the night away at Gruene Hall – the oldest dance hall in Texas.
This could be one of the best romantic getaways in Texas you’ll ever experience. If you can’t find a place to stay in Gruene, there is always New Braunfels, filled with unique getaways for couples.
4. Glen Rose – Skybox Cabins
Glen Rose’s historic downtown square has excellent restaurants and shops, and you can make it a romantic walk with a glass of wine in one hand and a red rose in the other. Does that sound romantic? Skybox Cabins is less than a mile away from the state park. You’ll love their place!
Dinosaur Valley State Park – Glen Rose
Who said outdoor activities at state parks aren’t romantic – it’s who you’re with that matters? If both of you are outdoorsy and nature lovers, a road trip to the Dinosaur Valley State Park is the perfect destination.
There are many hiking trails to explore, and searching for dinosaur bones would be a fun activity. All that matters is that you two spend quality time together. Pitch a tent under the stars and watch for that falling star, or go for a day trip, but bring a picnic with fresh fruit and wine.
5. Fredericksburg – Heart of Texas Hill Country
You know it’s an excellent place to visit when it’s on every list you research. Fredericksburg is indeed a place in the Hill Country that everyone wants to see. And if you like wine and wine tasting, you’ll be amazed at all the wineries in this area. And the scenic drive alone is worth the trip.
Have you heard of the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail? They offer four wine trails annually at participating Texas Hill Country wineries, with the first one of the year taking place in February. It’s called Wine Lover’s Celebration. This would make a perfect romantic getaway and complete your romantic stay.
6. Wimberley – Texas Hill Country
Choose the quaint town of Wimberley—a Texas Hill Country hidden gem charmer—for a nice romantic cabin in the woods. For a better night’s sleep, opt for a property with a private hot tub in the backyard. Checking on Airbnb or Vrbo will be your best bet here.
7. Romantic Getaways in North Texas – Grapevine
This town never ceases to surprise its visitors. Grapevine is always booming with action on Main Street, making it an excellent place for all occasions. Hotel Vin is a great option.
If you’re a wine connoisseur, you’re in luck because there are about 11 wineries on Main Street – no need to get in the car to drive to each, except if going to the one further north, called Cross Timbers Winery. It’s the first one to open in Grapevine, and it remains a popular choice. They have a wonderful outdoor setting, and live music happens sporadically, so please feel free to call ahead if that interests you. They offer outdoor weddings too.
8. Horseshoe Bay – Marble Falls
Horseshoe Bay is a prime area for romance, especially if you stay at Horseshoe Bay Resort – a golf and spa resort known to have excellent Valentine’s Day packages if that’s what you are searching for. Additionally, the scenic views of the hill country are something to behold.
9. Blisswood Bed & Breakfast Ranch
Blisswood Bed & Breakfast Ranch in Cat Springs, TX (near Houston), offers packages for couples seeking a romantic getaway. Ask about their Valentine’s Day special if applicable. Packages can include fresh flowers in your room, chocolate-dipped strawberries, a bottle of champagne, and other luxurious items. You can be as relaxed or active as you’d like, as this is a working ranch with plenty of outdoor activities available for guests.
10. Dripping Springs – Texas Hill Country
It’s, after all, the Wedding Capital of Texas. So, while you’re in Dripping Springs, consider proposing. You and your partner can visit the waterfalls in Dripping Springs and all the area’s quaint restaurants, breweries, and wineries – plenty there!
With its natural beauty, Hamilton Pool Preserve (above) is the perfect place to repeat your vows! Be sure to make reservations online—it gets crowded, and they only allow a certain number of people to enter. You can pick a time slot online.
If you want to wander the area, you’re not very far from the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, or two popular lakes – Lady Bird Lake and Lake Travis.
11. Camp Lucy – Texas Hill Country
Camp Lucy is also in Dripping Springs, a great place to spend time romantically at any time of the year. I’ve enjoyed spending time there several times in the past year and was mesmerized every time I drove to and from the house over the one-lane bridges over the creek. I loved that drive.
I’m almost sure that this luxury hotel venue will offer a few special romance packages, given its popularity as a wedding venue. Be sure to check out Tillies, it’s on-site upscale restaurant and bar.
12. Jefferson – East Texas
Jefferson has always been a romantic town due to the numerous bed and breakfast inns available. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want to wake up to a nice home-cooked breakfast. Breakfast is served in the common area, but you can also request to eat it privately. White Oak Manor Bed and Breakfast is a lovely choice. I enjoyed my stay, rain or no rain.
Jefferson is full of history, has a walkable downtown, and quite a few attractions to do while you’re there.
13. Stagecoach Inn – Salado
Salado, in Central Texas, is a small, quaint town located just a short drive from Austin. I would stop there on my way home from the hill country when traveling on I-35 to shop in the quaint boutiques. I always found something I liked. From what I recall, some shops are closed on Sundays. But, for a romantic stay in a historic hotel, opt for a romantic stay at the Stagecoach Inn (formerly the Shady Villa Hotel). The Stagecoach Restaurant is a great dinner option, located on-site.
14. JL Bar Ranch – Sonora
One more romantic place in the hill country. This one has its own private airport. Check out the JL Bar Ranch for a weekend stay. Texas couples love this place for its resort-style amenities, including a spa, a beautiful pool, horseback riding, an upscale dinner menu, and nearby golf courses. Wow, this would be my pick for romantic getaways in Texas.
Oh, which one of these small-town TX for couples is your favorite? Do tell.
15. McKinney – Dallas
Okay, so McKinney is a big city, but if you hang out downtown, it feels like a small town. I had to include this location because I recently visited, and we all had a whirl of fun on the square—a place to consider. If you visit on a Saturday, you’ll find one of the best farmers’ markets I’ve ever been to. Many vendors sell fresh fruits, garden vegetables, homemade soaps, fresh bread, hot sauce, and more.
16. The Bird & Butterfly Inn
The Bird & Butterfly Inn boasts its new (2024) title, “top romantic destination in Texas,” ranked by AAA. TripAdvisor also named it the “top luxury destination in Texas.” So, I’m happy to present this romantic inn overlooking the Angelina River in Jasper, Texas. Make it a romantic nature retreat or a stunning wedding venue. It’s an easy drive from Houston and about a 4-hour drive from Dallas.
Chet Garner (The Day Tripper) left this in their memory book (Nov. 2024): “I’ve traveled all over Texas, and this is by far one of the most beautiful and special properties in the Lone Star state.”
17. The Frenchie Boutique Hotel – Round Top, TX
I suggest you go here when you can enjoy the pool! Whether you visit Round Top during the antique show week or spend time in town during off-season, The Frenchie has it all: a pool, hot tub, pickleball, beautiful grounds, a restaurant, and more in the main house.
