Downtown McKinney provides so much for celebrating something special or having a date night. There are so many fun places to dine, but the restaurants on the square can be hard to choose because they are so good. If the wait time is long, you can walk around the square to burn time or choose another excellent place to dine next door or down the street.

For a bonus, there is an adorable and delicious pie shop called Emporium Pies that makes a great dessert stop! You and your date can share a slice as they are enormous and rich, too!

2. McKinney Is The Best Place For A Girl’s Weekend

Spending one-on-one time with your girlfriends is so relaxing and fun. How often do you get to do that? Take some time for yourself and book a weekend at a retreat. This adorable restored 88-year-old home in the charming historic downtown district would be the perfect place to host a girl’s weekend. At The Southern Chic Retreat, you and your girlfriends can get cozy and do the things you love like crafting, painting, and even enjoy spa time. Then fall silently asleep in your quaint room.

3. Stay In A Quaint Bed And Breakfast

Neathery Estate is the most adorable southern-style bed and breakfast in historic downtown McKinney. The owner is very passionate about what she does and has years of experience in the hospitality industry. She is very excited to be located in McKinney and has been open since early 2018. The house is beautiful, and you can tell she puts her heart into being a gracious host. This is a must-stay when you come to check out the town! It’s walking distance from the square, but you can also drive and park near the square if you don’t want to walk the few blocks to the shops.

Travel Tip: Neathery Estate was voted the #1 Hotel in McKinney in 2019 & 2020.

4. Shop, Sip, And Stroll In Downtown

Let me tell you about the shopping! If you are looking for a day of browsing with your friends or solo and perhaps something just for you, then you definitely want to check out the shops in downtown McKinney. They have everything a girl could want—jewelry, clothes, books, shoes, antiques, and more! There are tons of shops with adorable ideas for gifts. I could seriously do all of my gift-giving shopping here.

Landon Winery is right in the middle of downtown. Enjoy a wine tasting or two, and opt to sit outside on the shaded patio. If you’re a planner, you may want to book a winemaking class (in advance) if you’ve ever thought about making your own wine. Or how about a lesson where you will learn what wines pair well with certain foods? How fun would that be!

6. Book A Food Tour In Downtown McKinney

How does sampling food from several downtown McKinney restaurants sound? Food Walks of Texas provides walking food tours in downtown McKinney – usually on the weekends. But if you’re in town on a Saturday or Sunday, this tour is worth it. You’ll taste some of the best food in the area while learning about the city’s history.
