Tanglewood Resort On Lake Texoma

Tanglewood Resort on Lake Texoma provides a perfect staycation!

One of the prestigious Lake Texoma resorts is just a short drive north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and minutes from the Texas-Oklahoma border. Tanglewood Resort on Lake Texoma offers the perfect setting for a staycation for families, couples, adults, and groups.

Overlooking beautiful Lake Texoma, Tanglewood Resort at Lake Texoma offers spacious and comfortable guest rooms and villas, two restaurants, a recently renovated three-tiered pool, a slide for kids (which many adults also enjoyed – including me), and a tiki bar. While the older kids swim, you can enjoy the three cocktail lounges (one is adult only), the fitness center, a luxury spa, and an 18-hole golf course. Plus, there is horseback riding available about 3 minutes down the road.

Tanglewood Resort invited me and my friend, Esther, to a weekend stay, which included accommodations and meals. We made it a fabulous girls’ getaway for us! All opinions are my very own.

Tanglewood Resort On Lake Texoma

Finding a place to rent is probably the most challenging part of planning a trip. You want the right size and the perfect location that makes sense to your group. Tanglewood Resort on Lake Texoma is ideal for a family reunion, a romantic getaway, golfing buddies, fishing buddies, a girls’ getaway, and a fun staycation. We were in a beautiful 2-bedroom villa, and the master bedroom was luxurious.

When we were there, we noticed an 85-person family reunion, a fishing group, a women’s golf tournament, and Esther even ran into a friend of hers having a girls’ getaway. This resort is an ideal place to unwind, offering ample space and a variety of activities to enjoy. And it wasn’t even overly crowded. The property’s updates are exquisite, thanks to new owners, renovations, and a new chef, particularly in the pool area.

Resort Pool At Tanglewood Resort

I think the pool area was the most popular spot for all. Like other adults, Esther and I took full advantage of the slide. It’s small but fast – we got water up to our noses. We haven’t slid down a waterslide like that since we were young. Not sure what came over us, but it was fun. There are three pools with waterfalls and cabanas with comfy outdoor furniture and tables. I saw that they are building an outdoor stage for future live performances.

Restaurants At Tanglewood Resort

You can bring your food if you rent a villa with a kitchen. However, if you don’t feel like cooking, two restaurants will provide you with a well-prepared meal.

Lakeview Steakhouse is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You may want to have dinner there at least once, just for the steak and dessert! My salmon and Esther’s steak were cooked to perfection. And did you see the desserts (above)?

Tanglewood Bar & Grill is open for lunch, dinner, and poolside snacks. I ordered a salad, and after seeing Esther’s hamburger, I wished I’d ordered that, too!

Adult-only bar

The Tower Whiskey Bar

The Tower Whiskey Bar overlooks Lake Texoma, and the sunset view is not to be missed. This bar is for adults only after 5 p.m. It serves premium whiskey and more. On weekends, live music is available; if you dare, there’s an additional floor to the bar, offering an even better view. But I heard no one knows what goes on up there!!

Tanglewood Resort Golf Resort In North Texas

Renovations continued at the golf course, and Esther and I enjoyed a stroll around the course. We were welcomed by a women’s golf tournament called Red River Challenge – Oklahoma vs. Texas. Those ladies were so sweet. We also encountered an Oklahoma vendor handing out Clubby Seltzers, which are set to arrive in Texas and a few other states. So be sure to look for them. I don’t usually like seltzers, but this one was good, especially when the temperature was over 100!

Tranquility Spa And Salon

The spa is located on the property but is owned separately. Esther and I waltzed in there like we were going to get a massage that day. No way; the spa was booked for weeks. So, when you go, make sure you reserve a spot beforehand. The owner produces many of the products, and other bath and body products are also available for sale. It’s a nice and peaceful place located not far from the pool area. Tranquility Spa & Salon is a full-service spa.

Tip: Make reservations directly with the spa.

Striper Fishing Is Good On Lake Texoma

The lake is so big it covers several Texas and Oklahoma towns and is famous for fishing, camping, hiking, and having fun! If swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, and perhaps a relaxing dinner cruise on the lake sound fun, it’s time to check out what the impeccable Lake Texoma offers. And, if you’re going strictly for striper fishing, check out Anthony’s Guide Service for guided fishing trips.

If you’re looking for boat rentals on Lake Texoma, try these:

  • Highport Marina
  • Cedar Mills Marina
  • Cedar Bayou Marina
  • Lighthouse Marina

You’ll find rentals for pontoon boats, or get your rental from a place that rents boats like GetMyBoat. If you’re bringing your boat, boat ramps are everywhere and boat slips to rent.

Things To Do Around Lake Texoma

If you’re looking for extra things while staying at this Texas Resort, consider nearby Texas State Parks, Oklahoma State Parks, and all these attractions below.

Frank Buck Zoo

A small zoo off I-35 South.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge

Did you know there are only thirteen wildlife refuges in Texas? This one is located in Sherman, TX, a short drive from the resort.

Eisenhower State Park

Known for its grand western landscape, Eisenhower State Park

Lake Texoma State Park

The park is situated in Oklahoma and is an excellent destination for family time, offering a range of enjoyable activities. However, it was closed when we visited due to the hot weather and high bacterial levels.

Choctaw Casino

I believe this casino is in Durant, OK. I’ve never been. I’ve been to Winstar, but that casino is further down I-35. You will pass it on the right if you’re coming from the DFW area.

Turner Falls Park

My grandson and I had a wonderful day at Turner Falls Park. It’s always a great time to visit the falls, as they are open year-round. Bring life jackets for everyone, a picnic, and plenty of drinking water if you plan to go. There are nature trails to hike and caves to see. You could spend all day here.

If for another time, it’s just a short drive from North Texas and worth a day trip. Camping at Turner Falls Park is also enjoyable, especially in the fall, when the temperatures are more moderate.

As you can see, there is plenty to do in this area. I’m sure you’ll have many activities at Tanglewood Resort to keep you busy, but if not, you’ll have plenty of other attractions to explore. Where will you travel this year?
