Fiesta San Antonio (April)

Travelers come from all over the world to experience San Antonio’s most anticipated time of year: Fiesta.

The city hosts multiple days of celebrations, including the Fiesta Kickoff Party at Travis Park, Fiesta Oyster Bake held at St. Mary’s University, the breathtaking Battle of the Flowers Parade, and completely one-of-a-kind Night In Old San Antonio (NIOSA).

Visitors looking for where to kick their boots up during the festivities, there’s no better place than Hotel Contessa. Located right off the iconic River Walk, Hotel Contessa will have its own contribution to all the fiesta action.

Hotel Contessa will be hosting its own array of Fiesta-themed events, including:

  • Fiesta Kickoff Event & Medal Reveal
  • Fiesta Cookies & Cocktails
  • Fiesta Student Mariachi Showcase
  • Fiesta Street Taco Cookoff with St. Phillips College
  • Cavalier’s River Parade VIP Watch Party

The San Antonio Zoo

The San Antonio Zoo spans 56 acres and is home to more than 750 species and roughly 3,500 animals. It sits within a former rock quarry—a setting that helped inspire its pioneering move toward cageless, barless, open‑air habitats, a first of its kind in the United States. Something new is the ZooBand wearable, which adds an interactive layer to the visit, enhancing navigation and experiences throughout the grounds.

San Fernando Cathedral

Experience the enduring legacy of San Fernando Church, founded in 1731 and now the heart of the San Antonio Catholic community. What began as a frontier parish has grown into the city’s cathedral, carrying nearly three centuries of history within its walls.

It is free to enter and tour the San Fernando Cathedral, but please do not interrupt Mass. Check out the evening Light Show.

San Antonio River Walk

San Antonio River Walk

The San Antonio River Walk is the city’s signature experience—and the number one attraction in Texas. It winds around lined restaurants, shops, historic sites, and cultural landmarks. It’s both a city park and a pedestrian district, stretching through downtown and connecting major attractions like the Alamo, La Villita, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Pearl.

If there’s time during your visit, take a boat ride on the river and listen to the guide tell the history of San Antonio.

Here’s a great combo tour for the whole family.

The Alamo

Every kid needs to visit the Alamo, especially those in elementary school, since this is when they start to learn about Texas history. My son missed out on his 4th-grade school trip because of the pandemic. Fast-forward, it’s time I take him – he’s now 16 years old. Updates are underway at the Alamo now and will be completed through 2028. But nevertheless, the Alamo is always a sure bet for a great history lesson with the kids.

We can’t begin to tell you everything there is to do in San Antonio, but be sure to check out Fiesta Texas and all the historic sites. Here is a fun Girls’ Getaway in San Antonio idea from one of our contributor writers.
