Seguin holds the title “Pecan Capital of Texas.” Not only that, but the city also has the world’s largest pecan (statue). Now the city has one of the best golf courses too. See below. Whether you’re short on your travel budget or don’t want to travel far from home, there’s always family fun in Texas. Last weekend our family traveled south from Austin and honestly into unknown territory. Sure, we’ve seen the signs for Seguin on I-35, but we’d never stopped and didn’t even realize where it was.
Even if it’s 100 degrees out, you want to be outside in Texas during the summer. And when it’s hot, what better place to be than in or near the water? Seguin, TX, is surrounded by water on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
1. Explore Seguin Downtown Historic District
See the World’s Largest Pecan
Downtown Seguin has made it on the National Register of Historic Places for commercial business with some of the oldest structures in Texas. Main Street is where you’ll want to start exploring the area because you’ll find many things to do and see by walking around. A good first stop would be to see the World’s Largest Pecan outside the Courthouse – get your camera ready. Then, follow the square around, and you will see a park dedicated to the history of Seguin, featuring flags and statues. You can also visit countless murals that show photos from Seguin’s past and provide a memorable backdrop for your photos.
You may want to check Walnut Springs Park for a picnic or hike. Even on rainy days, there’s still fun to be had. You’re So Crafty – a walk-in art studio is a fun way for kids to paint a canvas or pottery and create jewelry or crafts with yarn.

3. Max Starcke Park

Located along the scenic Guadalupe River, Max Starcke Parkboasts many family activities, such as an 18-hole golf course, wave pool, fishing area, paddling trail, walking trail, tennis courts, and basketball & volleyball courts. Pack a lunch because there are picnic tables too.
4. Palace Theatre
A historic cinema in Seguin turned retro, offering movies, live music, and special events in two theaters. Update: 2022 – the website is under construction at this time.
5. McKenna Children’s Museum
This museum offers so many activities for kids that the adults will want to chime in for fun, too! About a 15-minute drive, you’ll be at the McKenna Children’s Museum—order tickets online to save time.
6. ZDT’s Amusement Park
The perfect place to keep the kids happy with water rides, go-karts, parachute drops, and a wooden roller coaster called Switchback. ZDT’s is your playground for the family!
7. Polmedia Polish Pottery
The Largest Polish Pottery Outlet in the World
Move over, pecan – you now have another “largest in the world” attraction in your town! Polmedia Polish Pottery is a happy place to make pottery. My son and I used to do this where we lived. I can’t count the pottery pieces he has made (at a very young age). It’s such a fun family thing to do.
8. Seguin Guadalupe County Heritage Museum
1898 Original Furnishings
The Heritage Museum is housed in a building built in 1898 with its original wood floors and ceilings. Before that, it was a grocery store. Guns, fossils, Native American artifacts, early settlers, and some of the first original salt-glazed pottery, among other local artifacts, are found here.
Admission: $1-$3. Opened Tues, Weds & Thurs from 10 am to 3 pm.
9. Blue Lotus Winery

Mead (in case you didn’t know – I did not) is “an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey mixed with water, and sometimes with added ingredients such as fruits, spices, grains, or hops.” They make their Mead from the finest honey in Texas. Blue Lotus Winery is located in Seguin and has opened Blue Lotus Resorts this month (Nov. 2022).
10. Glamping At Geronimo Creek

It’s the closest thing to camping in Texas you’d ever want to do in the hot summer months. Geronimo Creek Retreat features five treehouses surrounding a spring-fed pond and ten glamping cabins. You can feel as if you’re fully submerged in nature but with the comforts of air conditioning, bathrooms, and WiFi.
You and your family will enjoy swimming and fishing, and the retreat features a rope swing and complimentary kayaking and paddleboarding. If you still want to be on the water and want to change scenery, you have several options. On the San Antonio River, you can visit Geronimo Creek’s sister property, Son’s Island, with private lakeside cabanas, grills, and patio furniture to enjoy your stay. It’s a great place to spend time with family and friends in a relaxed, luxurious lakeside atmosphere.
You could also stick to the water with a rental from Red Beard Boats. This water rental company features skiing, pontoon boats, fishing boats, kayak, and paddleboard rentals. If needed, they serve customers at Lake Placid and will meet at nearby lakes, such as Canyon Lake.
12. Spend Time At A Local State Park
Keep in mind there are several state parks near Sequin. The Palmetto State Park is probably the closest, then Lockhart State Park & Guadalupe River State Park.
13. Sebastopol House Historic Site
Time travel back to this Greek Revival Style 150-year-old Texas Historical Landmark in Seguin, a National Register of Historic Places, and the Greek Revival home of Colonel Joshua Wright Young and later local Seguin mayor. This home survived all those years of the harsh Texas weather because of a special casting technique using concrete and limecrete (a mixture of local gravel and lime) to construct the home. Admission is free and open from 9 am to 4 p.m. Friday- Sunday. Guided tours are available.
14. Seguin Brewing Company
It is a cool brewery with long orange picnic tables. It looks like you’ll share tables with strangers, but what better way to find a new friend? It’s located in a prime spot in historic downtown Seguin. While enjoying a brew, you can order an artisan hand-stretched pizza baked in a brick oven. My kind of place!

And the green fee isn’t bad either for the city-owned 18-hole golf course in Seguin! It’s worth a look – Starcke Park Golf Course. They offer memberships and have a golf shop. Make your reservations online.

After a night full of cornhole and stargazing, we got a late start, so we only had time to grab a coffee. Seguin Coffee is a great spot for a drive-thru with just various caffeinated beverages and light bites.

Go where the drinks aren’t always conventional; breakfast is served all day, and lunch is typical deli fare. You’ll find that at Court Street Coffee Shop.
• Noe’s Mexican Cafe
Noe’s Cafe’s breakfast tacos are the universal breakfast in Texas, and this local taco stand is supposed to have the best in the area. The address is 1912 N Austin St.
• The Dilly Deli

• Davila’s BBQ
We visited Davila’s BBQ, Rocket Wings, and Seguin Brewing while in Seguin. You have options if you’re looking for picnic food or a sit-down restaurant. Our family eats BBQ, pizza, and chicken wings regularly, so these restaurants made our list, especially after the first was featured on Food Network. The second one was a recommendation by a friend, and the latter was a brewery and wood-fired pizza place we wanted to visit.
Pro Travel Tip: If you visit over a weekend or an extended weekend, double-check business hours, as some are not open on Sundays and Mondays.
