9 TX Hill Country Wineries With Lodging

Book a getaway at one of these TX Hill Country wineries with lodging.

No matter what you go to the hill country for, whether it’s the scenic views, the small-town attractions, or a Texas Hill Country winery tour, you’ll want to make the most of your time. Texas Hill Country wineries are some of the best in Texas and are scattered throughout the small towns. You’ll want to check out these 9 TX Hill Country wineries with lodging if you’re going mainly for wine time and want the whole experience.

Small towns with Texas wineries are sought after year-round, especially in the Texas Hill Country, where you’ll find over 100 wineries throughout. I’m familiar with the area and will give you all kinds of things to do near each winery if you want to explore the town.

The Texas Hill Country

While the Texas Hill Country wineries dominate, it’s for a good reason – small-town charm, rolling hills, blankets of wildflowers, flourishing vineyards, and the Texas Wine Trail that operates four times a year.

Along Hwy 290 (wine trail road, as some call it) from Johnson City to Fredericksburg or vice versa – you are in the heart of Texas Wine Country. A Texas getaway with an overnight stay might be what you need for a total Texas wine experience.

9 TX Hill Country Wineries With Lodging

It’s hard to beat this area’s best Texas wines, wine tastings, and live music. I think the hill country will be my retirement place – it’s just so serene in the rolling hill and the perfect place to spend the rest of your life – but that’s another article.

10 TX Hill Country Wineries With Lodging

1. Farmhouse Vineyard & Marketplace

Johnson City

The Farmhouse Vineyards & Marketplace & “Tipsy” Trailer is a tasting room and marketplace. Taste wine, enjoy a charcuterie board, and shop around – they have great items and excellent chocolate! They are down the street from the popular Bryans On 290 restaurants. FYI – make reservations if you plan to dine there.

Though their rental property is not next to their winery, it’s across the street, within walking distance. I’ve enjoyed staying at the Vagabonds on Pecan, a southern ranch-style home with the same owner as the Farmhouse Vineyards & Marketplace. It’s a beautiful home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining area, a den and living room, and a full kitchen. And a beautiful backyard where you can sit and gaze for hours.

A must-see is the “Tipsy” Trailer – a 1978 Airstream renovated into a tasting room parked under the large oak trees on the same property as the Farmhouse Winery – 402 East Main Street. There’s lots of seating outdoors, with music and special events occasionally.

They also have another rental property on Main Street, but it’s a bit of a walk, but a 3-minute drive or less. You can’t miss it, located near the Johnson City Coffee Co. Rent the Tasting House on Airbnb.

2. Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa

Johnson City

Carter Creek Winery Resort And Spa – an upscale family-owned rustic boutique wine resort with spacious villas and luxury amenities, including a spa.

The Old 290 Brewery – a rustic brewery and restaurant that combines beer and Texas cuisine like good ole steak, conveniently located on Hwy 290.

So you’ve got overnight lodging, a winery, a vineyard, a brewery, and a restaurant where you can dance – why go anywhere else? Wow, I can’t believe I missed seeing this place while in Johnson City. Next time I’m out that way, I’ll take photos to show here.

Plan a day trip to Pedernales State Park if staying in Johnson City. It’s minutes away, and the falls are gorgeous (if running). Prior reservations online are best. They sell out on day passes on Saturday and sometimes during summer.

Top Things To Do In Johnson City, TX

  • Pedernales State Park
  • Visit Lyndon B. Johnson’s Boyhood Home
  • Get the best local coffee at Johnson City Coffee Co.
  • Take the kids (adults like it too) to the Science Mill Museum.
  • Shop the boutiques on Main Street
  • Make reservations at Bryan’s On 290 – a popular upscale restaurant.
  • Plan a Girlfriend Getaway In Johnson City, TX

3. Flat Creek Estates

Marble Falls

Marble Falls is a marvelous place to rest and self-care. And Flat Creek Estates is a premier wine destination in MF that offers wine tastings and has a lovely restaurant. They kindly ask for reservations so they know you’re coming.

Cozy up at the Vintner’s Quarters at Flat Creek Estate on the property with scenic hill country views. You’ll have the entire house to yourself and your family. Available on Airbnb.

There are also tons to do in Marble Falls. If you’ve never been, you’ll want to visit Balcones Canyonland National Wildlife Refuge and hike the trails. It’s free. Take a half day to visit Sweet Berry Farms, and if you like caves, Burnet, the next town over, has a fantastic cave for touring called Longhorn Caverns. I’ve written The Perfect Girl’s Getaway In Marble Falls – with where to shop, eat and stay if you would like to read it. It’s a recent article (May 2022).

Hamilton Pool Preserve

4. Hamilton Pool Vineyards And Farm

Dripping Springs

The luxurious Vineyard Estate Home filled with modern amenities at Hamilton Pool Vineyards is steps away from the vineyard. I think you may never want to leave this place – I sure wouldn’t. Anyone who stays here can take leisurely walks on the property, but they also have tours and wine packages at additional costs.

This vineyard is a short drive from downtown Austin, and, as I mentioned above, escaping to Dripping Springs for special occasions makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re looking to relax and rewind.

Side note: Hamilton Pool Vineyards offers a local CSA program for the organic vegetables and herbs they grow on their farm. Of course, you must live nearby to participate, but I thought this was a nice tidbit. They also offer a farm school & education program for adults & youths.

5. Fall Creek Vineyards

Driftwood

Fall Creek Vineyards at Driftwood is 25 minutes from downtown Austin and situated on lush grounds in the hill country and across the street from the famous Salt Lick BBQ. They offer two venues for overnight guests for a restful and quiet retreat under the expansive Texas sky.

Fall Creek Vineyards Wine Country Inn Guest House is only steps away from the winery. It can’t get any better than this – stay overnight, drink award-winning wine, and eat BBQ across the street – you don’t even have to get into the car.

Fall Creek Vineyards Chardonnay Room is an adult-only romantic getaway for two.

Tip: Go to the website, look under the Visit tab, then click Wine Country Inn to read more about these fabulous stays.

Things To Do In Dripping Springs

  • See the falls at Hamilton Pool Preserve (no swimming allowed).
  • Take a tour at Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center and hike to see the grotto (challenging hike)
  • Check out Mercer Dance Hall (a honky tonk)
  • Play pickleball at DREAMLAND
  • Farmers Market on WEDS at Dr. Pound Farmstead
  • And see all the Texas Waterfalls in Dripping Springs

6. Barons Creek Vineyards

Fredericksburg

Enjoy wine tastings, or take it a step further and include wine education and small bites with your tastings. Barons Creek Vineyards in Fredericksburg won several awards at the 2020 Lone Star International Wine Competition.

The adult-only villas are a great place for a relaxed weekend with your significant other. Make it romantic while indulging in luxury in a private villa with a spacious living room, king bed, mini bar, wine tastings, spectacular views of the hill country, and more.

Pro Tip: Children and pets cannot stay in the villas.

7. Messina Hof Hill Country Winery

Fredericksburg

The Manor Haus B&B cottages – a Fredericksburg winery bed and breakfast at Messina Hof Hill Country Winery in wine country and one of the best wineries in the area, will be such a treat for you and your partner or whoever you’re traveling with.

Happy hour at the tasting room is Tuesday – Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., with select glasses of wine for only $5. That’s a deal right there!

I’ve enjoyed visiting Messina Hof in Grapevine, TX, but haven’t had the chance to visit their winery in the hill country. I’d love to enjoy a glass of wine here.

8. Grape Creek Vineyards

Fredericksburg

Grape Creek Vineyards tops the charts for being the oldest winery on Hwy 290, aka Texas Wine Road, and is impressive with its stainless tanks and premium establishment. Reserve your spot for wine tasting and wine flights just for you and your taste. I love it when I can choose my own wines for tastings.

If you’re familiar with Jenblossom Cellars (JB Cellars), Grape Creek now offers Jenblossom Cellars Tastings for $65 a person. WOW!!

The Vineyard Trail Cottages are available to rent on Airbnb and are located on Hwy 290 in Fredericksburg.

Pro Tip: Better read up on their rules – there are some strict ones! No children, infants, or pets.

9. Mendelbaum Winery

Fredericksburg

Mendelbaum guest cabins are family-friendly, with a playground and a hot tub for you! With only a short walk (about 5 mins), Mendelbaum Cellars Winery, where you can taste Israeli and Texas wines.

Things To Do In Fredericksburg

  • Peach season in the hill country is in August
  • Lots of shopping to do in this town
  • Restaurants on every corner
  • Tour other wineries if you want
  • Hike Enchanted Rock

These TX Hill Country wineries with lodging are like gold. Be sure to book early and watch for special events in the area. There is always an event in the TX Hill Country.

Horseshoe Bay Resort Wine Tours

I’m not counting Horseshoe Bay as wineries with lodging in Texas because it’s not, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s fun to take a wine tour and let someone else do the driving. The resort doesn’t have a winery on its property but is close to over 30 wineries in the area. Horseshoe Bay Resort Wine Tours offers daily wine tours for its guests to Spicewood and Fredericksburg vineyards. How fun is that! Oh, and private tours are also available.

I’m not sure how you will choose between these wineries with lodging because they are all spectacular!
