things to do for christmas in grapevine tx

How to spend a wonderful Christmas in Grapevine, Texas, with the whole family.

Historic Grapevine is located in North Texas, in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and is a short drive from DFW International Airport. In case you didn’t know, Grapevine is the Christmas Capital of Texas. Here are family things to do for Christmas in Grapevine, TX.

Activities to do in Grapevine, TX, during the holidays include so many that you’ll want to spend the entire holiday here with your family. Below is a list of places and things you should not miss. But if you’re here looking for things to do throughout the seasons in Grapevine, you can find that on the link in this sentence.

Grapevine, Texas, is The Christmas Capital of Texas

The minute you step foot on historic Main Street, you’ll feel the magic of Christmas all around you. It happens to me every time. I don’t miss a holiday in Grapevine, whether I’m going to the Gaylord Texan’s SO.Much.Christmas and ICE! or walking down Main Street and shopping at the shops and boutiques, or going for a wine tasting at Messina Hof and sitting outside to people-watch and marvel at the holiday decorations—it’s everything a person thinks the holidays should be like.

Things To Do For Christmas in Grapevine, TX

With its small-town feel and Christmas spirit during the holidays, Grapevine is the perfect place for a unique Christmas getaway for families, couples, and multi-gen travelers.

Grapevine has 1,400 events in 40 days.

Be sure to check out everything Grapevine has to offer before the holidays. The best place to do that is the Visitor Center. They have volunteers who can answer your questions. See more below.

Things To Do For Christmas In Grapevine, TX

Grapevine’s Hometown Christmas Exhibit 2024

The Visitor Center is a great place to start your holiday adventure in Grapevine. The staff is very knowledgeable about all the Christmas events in Grapevine and can direct you anywhere you want to go.

Enjoy an interactive Christmas Exhibit to get you pumped up for a classic American town preparing for Christmas.

Located at the Tower Gallery inside the Convention & Visitors Bureau Headquarters
636 S. Main St.
Grapevine, TX  76051

November – December
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 9 pm
Saturday, 10 am – 9 pm
Sunday, 10 am – 9 pm

Cost: The exhibit is $1 per person.

Travel Tip: Inside the Visitors Center is a huge train display that all kids will love, especially if they like Thomas The Train – so cute!

After visiting the exhibit, I found that the historic downtown is a great place to start the holiday season and your shopping!!

Grapevine Historic Main Street

Many festivities happen daily and every night on historic Main Street. From the Carol of Lights, the Parade of Lights, City Hall, and all the bright lights you can imagine, the beautiful lit-up Town Square Gazebo is a site to see with many photo ops for your family photos.

Enjoy festive, locally owned decorated boutiques inside and out while gathering your Christmas shopping list gifts.

You’ll see Christmas cheer all up and down Main Street. Live music is here and there. Maybe you’ll see Santa Claus watching high above the clouds.

Step into Good Things For All Seasons on Main Street for the most magical shop. It’s my favorite store! It’s not hard to miss with red lights up and down on its storefront. Also, see their outstanding collection of villages in the back of the store.

Christmas At The Historic Palace Theatre

Classic Christmas movies will not only be showing at the theatre, but more Christmas events throughout the holiday will be happening, too. The Palace Theatre has been a Grapevine staple for many years, and every time the holidays roll around, it seems to get more noticed than ever before. Check out all the holiday events at the historic Palace Theatre.

Holly Jolly Bar

Harvest Hall Adjacent to Hotel Vin

Things to do for Christmas in Grapevine, TX, wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Harvest Hall. It’s a 20,000-square-foot food and entertainment destination in historic Grapevine, connected to Hotel Vin. It features chef-driving kitchens, craft coffee and cocktails, and private and public venues for events.

Be sure to step inside Third Rail (inside Harvest Hall) and enjoy Christmas cocktails at the Holly Jolly Bar. There might be live music playing, but the bar area is the site to see—many (many) holiday decorations are going on there!

Observation Tower at Harvest Hall

The Observation Tower is 150 feet tall and offers 360-degree views of Grapevine, DFW International Airport, and the Dallas—Fort Worth metroplex.

Someone by the elevator can talk with you before going up.

Tickets: $3 per person.

Travel Tip: Harvest Hall has a mini visitor center by the elevator inside. Someone there can help you with questions about Grapevine.

Bubbles at Hotel Vin

Hotel Vin – Grapevine, Texas

Hotel Vin and Harvest Hall have become significant icons in Grapevine. A must-see is Hotel Vin’s outdoor igloo tents (bubbles), which are only set up during the wintertime. These are great for small parties, romantic date nights, celebrations, and anything imaginable. They were all booked while we were there. There are also a few places to sit outside by the fire. Contact Hotel Vin for the igloos, and go early for fireside seating.

Peace Plaza Ice Rink In Grapevine, TX

In its second year, the outdoor ice rink in Grapevine has been enormously successful and is here to stay. Peace Plaza Ice Rink is one of the best things to have come to Grapevine for the holidays. Open every day until early January 2025, except on Christmas Day.

It is located on Peace Plaza opposite Harvest Hall.

Tickets: $20 a person for one hour of skating. Skating shoes included.

Elf Adventure In Grapevine, TX

Settlement to City Museum presents Elf Adventure, which is fun for all ages.

North Pole Express Train Ride

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad puts on an incredible story inside the train while chugging along for a 45-minute ride. It’s truly magical, and the cookies and hot chocolate you’ll enjoy on the train aren’t bad either. And, besides the adorable (real) elf making you laugh while telling the story of Christmas, there might be a special guest coming through, too!

Nash Farm

Enjoy a Victorian Christmas here.

Great Wolf Lodge

Snowland Wonderland would be a great experience for the whole family.

Gaylord Texan Resort – So.Much.Christmas

Get into the holiday spirit with a trip to Gaylord Texan Resort. Enjoy all its Lone Star Christmas events, marvel over all the Christmas lights, and see the magical ICE! Presentation (changes each year).

What’s better than hot chocolate and snow tubing indoors? Nothing!

Grapevine Christmas Wine Trains

When tickets go on sale, they sell out very quickly. If tickets are already sold out, you can sign up here to get on the waitlist. Talk about getting tickets early!

Grapevine’s Urban Wine Trail

The Urban Wine Trail is a self-guided walking tour of wine-tasting rooms on Grapevine Main Street, but some shuttles can take you to off-site locations.

You can go all out on a Grapevine Foodie and Winery Tour and let someone else do the driving. Taste a bit of Grapevine! Get your tickets here on Viator from $110/person. Book early!

Grapevine Mills Mall

It does get cold in Texas, so why not come inside where it’s warm? Grapevine Mills Mall offers world-class shopping and attractions, including lots of outlet shopping, eateries, and activities for the kids.

Meow Wolf Grapevine

Semi-new to Grapevine, Meow Wolf Grapevine. The real-unreal is a fourth addition to the Meow Wolf universe. It showcases an interactive artscape that expands into a new era of art and storytelling. Featuring a massive collaboration between Texas and Santa Fe-based artists, this inspiring tale about creativity, community, and the power of imagination unfolds within a mesmerizing new space.

It might not be Christmasy or part of the 1400 events in 40 days, but while you’re here, I recommend checking it out—there are only four (five now) in the world. Get your tickets on Viator here – The Real Unreal at Meow Wolf.

Experience Grapevine and make wonderful Christmas memories with your family and friends. Please share all these things to do for Christmas in Grapevine, TX, and start planning your visit! Merry Christmas!
