Bastrop Texas Glamping Adventures

It’s a beautiful time to embark on a glamping adventure in Central Texas.

Bastrop is a hidden gem to most, boasting a diverse range of small shops, breweries, distilleries, wine shops, and restaurants. Bastrop glamping makes a great getaway from the city of Austin, and it won’t be long until you’re out in nature, soaking up the sun. Read about our Bastrop, Texas, glamping adventures, and I bet you’ll want to do the same!

The town of Bastrop is approximately a one-hour drive northeast of San Antonio and under an hour drive southeast of Austin, depending on the traffic.

Visit Bastrop and The Reserve at Greenleaf hosted Adeina’s stay, meals, and excursions. All opinions are her very own.

Bastrop, Texas Glamping Adventures

The iconic Old Iron Bridge, its charming downtown streets, outdoor adventures, and its eclectic food scene make this town a perfect getaway for families, couples, girlfriends – well, anyone, and Texas hospitality at its finest.

I didn’t bring the pups on this trip, but learned that Bastrop is pet-friendly.

Texas Glamping At The Reserve At Greenleaf

The Reserve at Greenleaf has four beautiful luxury yurts. When we first arrived, we met the owners and toured the grounds. The yurts have a large pavilion, separate bathrooms, a hot tub, and a large fire pit.

It was my first experience staying in a yurt, and I was pleasantly surprised by the luxury amenities and accommodations. The king-size bed was plush and very comfortable. There was a coffee bar, which I loved. And that bathroom was beautiful – large towels and a rain-flow shower head made this the perfect bathroom.

Adventures At The Reserve At Greenleaf

Although that was short-lived, we were excited to return to the yurt and go hiking. First, we got lost, then we were attacked by spiders. It was only one spider, but we were not fans of it.

I put together a yummy charcuterie board, and we grabbed some wine and headed to the hot tub. The owners came out and lit the fire pit for us to enjoy. They are a lovely couple who own over 200 acres surrounding the yurts. It is a beautiful place to stay.

We learned very quickly that we needed to spend more time outdoors. Bugs are our friends; well, we tried. There weren’t many bugs, but since we were in the woods, we had to suck it up and be okay with sharing space with them.

Kayaking On Lake Bastrop

We were excited to hit the lake and try out the kayaks the next day. The Reserve provides kayaks for anyone who stays in the yurts, but you can also rent them at Lake Bastrop. The owners of the Reserve were great. They loaded the kayaks, hauled them to the lake, and unloaded them.

We headed out on our kayak ride and were very thankful for the tip from the owners of the Reserve. He told us not to go into the middle of the lake because the current was powerful, but we learned how strong it was the hard way.

Where To Eat In Bastrop, TX

Where To Eat In Bastrop, Texas

Restaurant options in Bastrop begin with southern charm at every establishment and offer a variety to satisfy all tastes. You’ll find everything from hamburgers to a big plate of steak and potatoes.

The Old Town Restaurant And Bar

I asked the locals where they recommended we eat. They highly recommended we head to the Old Town Restaurant & Bar.

Roadhouse Bastrop

After our strenuous kayak ride, we were ready for a yummy lunch. Once again, we asked the locals where we should go. They suggested the Roadhouse Bastrop, which is located just outside of town. The food was terrific. I got the chicken plate; it was the best chicken I have ever had. They soak the chicken in brine for 24-48 hours, grill it, and smother it with cheese, sauce, and avocado. Seriously, best chicken ever!

Neighbor’s Kitchen And Yard

We grabbed an amazing gluten-free pizza and excellent cocktails at Neighbor’s Kitchen & Yard. The vibe here is fantastic; we loved the outdoor seating and live music.

602 Brewing Company

As the weather started to cool, we returned to town to check out some beer tastings. The 602 Brewing Company was open, so we each did a beer flight. They had a large selection of brews; my favorite was the 602 Griswold Winter Warmer 2022. It tasted like fall in a glass, with flavors of caramel, nutmeg, and cinnamon; this was perfect for a cold day. They also serve fresh food.

Copper Shot Distillery

We decided to explore the shops in town to satisfy our retail therapy and found the cutest clothing store, KC Outfitters. After purchasing some cute shirts, we decided to grab a cocktail at the Copper Shot Distillery, one of the only places open for cocktails that day.

Travel Pro Tip: Most retail shops are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Local Coffee Shops And More At The Village

I was ready for coffee, again, you know me, always searching for a great cup. Again, we asked the locals, who advised us to check out The Crossing. It was the cutest old-time-looking shopping area. There were stores, restaurants, and a coffeehouse.

Our Bastrop, Texas, glamping adventures were relaxing, fun, and just what we needed to end the spring season. The hammocks outside, the luxurious bed inside, and the peacefulness of being in the country all contributed to making our time here more enjoyable. There is so much to do on the property of The Reserve. It’s the perfect glamping getaway in Texas. And …if you’re looking to just spend the day in Bastrop, check out the owner’s recent article about “What to do in Bastrop for the day,” you may find it surprising!

PS. Don’t be afraid to ask locals where to go for fun – they know! Additionally, Visit Bastrop offers a wealth of information and is a great starting point for planning your trip.
