Here’s where and how to spend a wonderful Labor Day weekend in Texas.

Wait! Summer is not over just yet! Labor Day is another holiday weekend we can spend doing summer things. Better yet, why not enjoy a long Labor Day weekend in Texas doing what you love? This is a holiday to rest and relax, wherever you feel most comfortable. Enjoy that extra day, too.

Labor Day is a celebration of the achievements of American workers. We celebrate you if you’ve ever worked a day in the USA!

If you plan to spend the holiday at home, consider planning a backyard barbecue and playing outdoor games. However, if you can extend your summer for one more weekend, consider the recommendations below.

PS. Regarding the Texas Hill Country (Kerrville), I’m excluding any festivals or events in that area. They are probably not going to have anything going on for quite some time, unless it’s a benefit for the victims of the Texas flood tragedy. That’s my thought.

Enjoy Labor Day Weekend In Texas

Now that July 4th is behind us, it’s time to start planning for the 3-day Labor Day weekend. Besides all the mattress discounts you’ll ever want to hear about (I actually bought one last year), we have a few ideas below on how to spend your Labor Day weekend. I would love to plan a road trip every time a three-day weekend rolls around.

Staying close to home is an excellent option for many of us. Backyard picnics are fun, s’mores by the fire pit, etc, but if you want more, let’s dive into these spots.

It’s still hot in Texas, and almost everything related to summer is open through Labor Day. That’s a win-win.

Fun Things To Do on Labor Day In Texas

Some great options for spending a day or a weekend include resorts with pools, nearby beaches, lakes, golf courses, and your favorite water park. You could also rent a cabin at a state park or bring a tent to camp out under the stars. These fun activities can continue in September with ease.

So, if a pool party in your backyard is out of the question because you’ve already had plenty of those, it’s time to plan to go somewhere.

Labor Day is filled with festivals, food, and even balloon fests. Here are a few ideas and many activities for you and your kids.

Please note: Always check prices, opening dates, and times before you go.

North Texas Labor Day Weekend

Areas north of Dallas, such as Plano, The Colony, Frisco, and even Irving, which is located west of Dallas, are gaining a lot of hype these days. And for a good reason. More and more entertainment is coming to each city. And the best part is that residents of these areas no longer have to leave their city to find fun and excitement for their families—it’s right in their backyards!

The Colony is the fastest-growing city in North Texas. And the Toyota Music Factory in Irving is gaining attention.

Hilton Anatole Dallas Brings Santa to Its Labor Day Fun

Christmas at the Anatole presents a holiday-themed event during the Labor Day weekend.

Cool off with this holiday twist and enjoy a Santa Cabana Weekend. From August 29 to September 1, 2025, get in on the festive fun at JadeWaters Resort Pool Complex. A Labor Day splash of holiday magic with Santa & Mrs. Claus, poolside fun, festive treats, foam parties and family-friendly activities.

The Grandscape (The Colony)

You could spend an entire day here enjoying all its attractions and live entertainment, or it might take you two days to see it all.

  • Grandscape Wheel
  • Movie Theater
  • Andretti Indoor Karting & Games
  • Shopping at major brands and boutiques
  • Nebraska Furniture Mart
  • Lots of dining options
  • Plenty of free parking
  • Live Music at the Truck Yard & food trucks
  • Scheels (there is a smaller wheel inside to ride for only $1)

And if you haven’t been to Grandscape lately, there are new attractions at Grandscape that have been added in the past year.

Frisco Star District

Frisco has risen to the top. Visitors are swarming the area from downtown Frisco to the new Starplex to check it all out—another location in North Texas where you could spend the entire day and not see everything.

  • The Starplex
  • National Soccer Hall of Fame
  • KidZania
  • Shopping Mall
  • Dining, bars, tea room, sweets
  • Hotels (Omni & Hyatt) and the many around the Starplex

Plus, there are many other things to do in the Rail District and all over town.

Labor Day Weekend In Texas

The Boardwalk At Granite Park – Plano

If you haven’t been to The Boardwalk, you need to go. Meander around the small lake while marveling at the foundation in the middle. Enjoy your pick of restaurants with both indoor and outdoor seating. Play the yard games that are available for all. Sit and watch people. Dogs welcome!

Check out what Rory and her family crammed into a weekend in Plano.

Legacy Hall In Plano

Legacy Hall has an area with your favorite food. Order what you want and meet your gang at a table. It’s fabulous!

Toyota Music Factory – Irving

A live music venue is what you’ll find at the Toyota Music Factory, but there’s more. Throughout the lawn, restaurants offer both outdoor and indoor seating. Picnic tables are on the grounds; you can even bring a blanket to sit on the grass. This is always a family-friendly event with pizza, hamburgers, chicken, tacos, and more!

And, if you go across the street to the Las Colinas Canal, there are more eateries. Plus, you can walk around the canal, rent a kayak, and even get serenaded on a riverboat for dinner. This area would make a lovely spot for a Labor Day weekend in Texas.

Labor Day Weekend In Granbury

If you’ve ever attended a special event or a fun family festival on Granbury Square, you know that Granbury, TX, is always worth visiting for a good time. From September 1st, the town will come alive with another fun Labor Day festival, featuring a sidewalk sale on the square, live music, and a lighted boat parade on its city beach on Lake Granbury. Activities are free.

I think I’ll attend this festival just for its annual sidewalk sales. You? There’s sure to be some good sales going on. This will definitely be a special Labor Day event. Check out all the fun – Granbury Square Labor Day Weekend Celebration.

Tanglewood Resort On Lake Texoma

This resort is situated on the Texas-Oklahoma border in Texas and offers everything your family needs for a great time. New owners and managers have taken over, and the three-tier pool with a slide is waiting for you! We were there two years ago and stayed in a villa suite, which was more than we expected. Check out our weekend at Tanglewood Resort below.
