Labor Day Weekend In Texas

Labor Day Weekend in Texas

Scope these places to spend a family Labor Day weekend in Texas.

Labor Day is another Texas holiday weekend on Monday, September 5th, 2022. Better yet, a long weekend to enjoy! Labor Day is about celebrating the achievements of American workers. If you’ve ever worked a day in your life in the USA, we celebrate you! Labor Day is for you to rest and relax anywhere you feel comfortable.

The first day of school is earlier this year; at least for us, it is (Aug. 17th). So, if you plan to spend the holiday at home, you could always plan a backyard barbecue and play outdoor games. But, we have one more opportunity to extend summer for one more weekend. If this is you, plan your Labor Day weekend in Texas on the road with our tips and recommendations.

Now that July 4th is behind us, it’s time to start planning for the 3-day Labor Day weekend. Besides all the mattress discounts you’ll ever want to hear about, I have a few ideas below about where you can spend Labor Day weekend in Texas. I would love to plan a road trip every time a three-day weekend rolls around.

We don’t know what the gas prices will be in September, but as far as I’ve been seeing and reading, high gas prices are not stopping people from taking road trips. Staying close to home is a great possibility for a lot of us. It’s still hot in Texas, and almost everything related to summer is still open through Labor Day. That is good for us.

So, if a pool party in your backyard is out of the question because you’ve already had plenty of those, it’s time to plan to go somewhere.

North Texas

Areas north of Dallas, like Plano, The Colony, Frisco, and even Irving, which is west of Dallas, are getting a lot of hype these days. And for a good reason. More and more entertainment is coming to each city. And the best part is that residents of these areas no longer have to leave their city to find fun and excitement for their families—it’s right in their backyards!

The Grandscape (The Colony)

You could spend an entire day here with all its attractions and live entertainment. It might take two days to see it all.

  • Grandscape Wheel
  • Movie Theater
  • Special Entertainment Exhibit (Marvel Avengers is happening now, but exhibits do change)
  • Andretti Indoor Karting & Games
  • Shopping major brands and boutiques
  • Nebraska Furniture Mart
  • Lots of dining options
  • Plenty of free parking
  • Live Music at the Truck Yard & plenty of food trucks
  • Scheels (there is a smaller wheel inside to ride for only $1)

Visit Kim’s blog for more in-depth fun on things to do at Grandscape.

Frisco Star District

Frisco has risen to the top lately. Visitors are swarming the area from downtown Frisco to the new Starplex to check it all out.

  • The Starplex
  • National Soccer Hall of Fame
  • KidZania
  • Shopping Mall
  • Dining, bars, tea room, sweets
  • Hotels (Omni & Hyatt) and the many all around the Starplex

Plus tons of other things to do in the Rail District and all over town. NOW THAT UNIVERSAL PARKS & RESORTS IS COMING TO FRISCO – there will be so much to do for families!!

See how a friend and I spent a Weekend in Frisco.

The Boardwalk At Granite Park (Plano)

If you haven’t been to The Boardwalk, you need to go. Meander around the small lake while marveling at the foundation in the middle. Take your pick of restaurants to enjoy with inside and outside seating. Play the yard games that are available for all. Sit and watch people. Dogs welcome!

Check out what Rory and her family crammed into a weekend in Plano.

Legacy Hall In Plano

One area with your favorite food is what you’ll find at Legacy Hall. Order what you want and meet your gang at a table. It’s fabulous!

Toyota Music Factory (Irving)

A live music venue is what you’ll find at the Toyota Music Factory, but there’s more. All around the lawn are restaurants with outside and inside seating. Picnic tables are on the grounds; you can even bring a blanket to sit on the grass. This is always a family-friendly event arena with pizza, hamburgers, chicken, tacos, and everything else!

And, if you go across the street to the Las Colinas Canal, there are more eateries. Plus, you can walk around the canal, rent a kayak, and even get serenaded on a riverboat for dinner. This area would make a lovely Labor Day weekend in Texas.

Texas Food Fest – Dallas

On Labor Day, September 5th, Texas Food Fest will showcase the best caterers and chef’s in Texas at Lofty Spaces in Dallas. What great ideas they have for the public and a perfect day to have something like this. Who’s going?

Admission: Free online, $10 at the door.

Labor Day Weekend In Granbury

Granbury Square Labor Day Weekend Celebration

If you’ve ever attended special events or a fun family festival on Granbury Square, you know the town knows how to throw a party. From September 2-5, 2022, the town will rock with another fun Labor Day festival, including a sidewalk sale on the square, live music, and a lighted boat parade on its city beach on Lake Granbury. Activities are free.

I think I’ll attend this festival just for its annual sidewalk sales. You? There’s sure to be some good sales going on. This will be a special Labor Day event for sure.

Labor Day Weekend at Epic Waters

Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark will offer a three-day weekend celebration with live entertainment and interactive activities on September 2nd.

Guadalupe River in Gruene

Things To Do In the Texas Hill Country For Labor Day Weekend

New Braunfels

Tubing and floating down the Guadalupe River would be a fun thing to do for Labor Day weekend. If you don’t mind crowds, this would be something to check into. What better way to celebrate the unofficial end of summer than floating down a river? And, yes, the water is cold!

Dripping Springs / Driftwood

If I lived closer, this is where I’d be. With the only town in the hill country to have wineries, distillers, and brewers, you know there will be some good parties. Check out my articles Reasons To Visit Dripping Springs and Waterfalls In Dripping Springs for ideas to spend Labor Day weekend in Texas.

Wimberley

Jacob’s Well swimming hole is a great place to spend a couple of days in the sun rounding out the last weekend of the summer. There are lots of house rentals, rooms, and rustic cabins to stay at, and you’re in the Texas Hill Country!!

Fredericksburg Balloon Festival

Join the Pie Capital of Texas this Labor Day Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 3rd, for the Kyle Pie in the Sky Day Celebration. Expect entertainment for the whole family, a vendor market, live music, a kids’ area, and tethered hot air balloon rides. And don’t forget the pie baking contest, pie-eating contests, and many pie vendors. OMG. I would love to go here!

Admission is free, but balloon rides will cost.

Margaritaville Resort On Lake Conroe

Nowhere else can you play in the sun, eat, swim, and walk barefoot while listening to music than at the Margaritaville Resort on Lake Conroe. If you don’t know already, you need to know about this place – Margaritaville Resort Lake Conroe.

Oh, and …It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!

One of Tanglewood Resort’s 3-tier resort pool

Tanglewood Resort On Lake Texoma

This resort is located on the Texas-Oklahoma border and has everything your family needs to have a great time. There are new owners and managers and a new 3-tier pool with a slide. We were there two weeks ago and stayed in a villa suite, which was more than we expected. Check out our weekend at Tanglewood Resort below.

Austin Area

Omni Barton Creek Resort

Part of the Omni Hotel family. Barton Creek Resort has it all.

They offer special packages throughout the year, and my favorite is their Sunrise, Sunset & S’mores Package – great for the entire family and a good place to party. Available through Labor Day.

Lady Bird Lake, Travis Lake, and any lake in or around Austin will be packed with people. But it is something to consider. Bring your own kayak, so you don’t have to wait in line to get out on the water.

HERE’S TO LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2022
