Wine Trails In Texas To Follow

Do you know about these 14 Wine Trails in Texas that offer wine tastings?

Texas Hill Country is not the only area in Texas that offers a wine trail. There are at least twelve others all over the Lone Star State. Here at Texas Travel Talk, some of us long to follow all these wine trails in each region. See below the fabulous wine trails in Texas, when they happen throughout the year, the areas, and ticket prices (if any).

Texas Wine Trails

14 Wine Trails In Texas To Follow

From north to south to central and the hill country, and don’t forget the one in the east, these wine trails are open and waiting to serve you. Some are scheduled at certain times of the year, but most are self-guided. You will save money on tours planned because, in my experience, most wine tastings are $20-$25 each.

North Texas Region

• North Texas Wine Trail

Full Month of February

Drink North Texas has at least 35 wineries spread out all over the north. That’s a large area, so you may want to take a couple of days to scoop it all out. The North Texas Wine Trail is hosting a Valentine Wine Trail in February (2024 link coming soon).

Area: This area is spread out far and wide. See the website for the entire area and road trip drives.

Tickets: $49

• Way Out Wineries

This is not a scheduled wine trail but rather a path of wineries south of Dallas-Fort Worth to the north of Austin.

Way Out Wineries is a group of eight boutique wineries that are a bit off the beaten track with fabulous scenic by-ways for the road trip and small, quaint Texas towns to meander through. Each winery is family-owned and operated, and you may meet the winemakers behind the counter pouring the wine. They call their wine trails “Road Trips,” but I don’t see any scheduled. They did have a few events last year.

Area: Granbury, Burleson, Hico, Lampasas, Hamilton, and San Saba

• Cross Timbers Wine Trail

Another trail of wineries in North Texas, but this is an association where wineries can join. The Cross Timbers Wine Trail is an association for Texas Grape Farmers and Wine Crafters in the Cross Timbers Eco Region of Texas.

Areas: Muenster, Saint Jo, Valley View, Iowa Park, Alvord, Boyd, Sunset. More wineries in other regions can also be members but might be listed under other wine trails on this list. See website.

• Red River Valley Wine Trail

It’s a small but mighty wine trail in North Texas. There are only three wineries, but I can see growth here. Red River Valley Wine Trail includes Arche, Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard, and 4R Ranch Vineyards and Winery. There are no set dates to follow, but these three wineries are open year-round.

Area: Saint Jo and Muenster

See the North Texas Wineries Map for complete directions.

Piney Woods Region (East Texas Wineries)

• Piney Woods Wine Trail

For a fine wine trail in East Texas, follow the Piney Woods Wine Trail to twenty-two wineries on a self-guided tour. But if you’re in the area in May, you may want to check out the Spring Piney Woods Wine Festival in Lindale, Texas.

Grab the East Texas wineries map here – Piney Woods Wine Trail Map.

Central Region

• Stagecoach Wine Trail (Near Waco)

January

A perfect place to enjoy a glass with friends and family is on the Stagecoach Wine Trail. A purchased ticket to the annual Stagecoach Wine Trail event grants you complimentary wine tastings at all participating wineries (Nine) on the Trail –that’s a $135 value!

People are talking about Country Spring Vineyard, which is on this trail.

You will have thirteen days to enjoy your tastings, starting at the winery of your choice. You’ll have to wait until next January.

Areas: Temple, Salado, Waco, Rogers, Clifton, & Valley Mills

Tickets: Stagecoach Wine Trail ticket information

Texas Hill Country

• Texas Hill Country Wine Trail

40+ Wineries participate in each wine trail.

  1. October – Texas Wine Month Passport – the entire month of October
  2. December – Christmas Wine Affair
  3. February  – Wine Lover’s Celebration
  4. April – Wine and Wildflower Journey

More in-depth information on this wine trail (with some wineries included) is here: Texas Hill Country Wine Trail.

• Driftwood Wine Trail

A self-guided wine trail with six wineries on this scenic view of the hill country. See Driftwood Wine Trail.

• Dripping With Taste Trail

March

Dripping With Taste Trail Includes wineries, breweries, and distillers in Dripping Springs

Tickets: $40/per person

• Fredericksburg Wine Road 290

It’s not a scheduled trail but a path to fantastic wineries and vineyards. Plus, shopping and dining experiences along the way. Start in Johnson City and wind up in Fredericksburg, or vice versa. The map shows 17 wineries along Wine Road 290, but I thought there were more. See Wine Road 290.

Southeast Region

• Sam Houston Wine Trail

There is no set wine trail event. There are eight wineries in this area to discover. It looks like they had an event in 2021, but nothing since then. The Sam Houston Wine Trail comprises a group of growers and winemakers in East Texas’s beautiful rolling, piney hills. Finding award-winning wines at these tasting rooms is genuinely the best-kept secret in Texas. This would make a great day trip from Houston.

Area: Huntsville, Conroe, New Waverly, Richards, & Montgomery

• Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail

October
February
May

The Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail is the ultimate Southeast Texas wine region to discover. Nestled in the rolling hills and wildflowers of Texas countryside, you’ll want to plan for a full day visiting these wineries.

Area: Located between I-45 and U.S. Highway 290 – Plantersville, Navasota, Bryan, College Station,  & Chappell Hill.

Tickets: $30 or $54 for a couple

• Texas Independence Wine Trail

A trail of eight wineries offering award-winning wines and charming tasting rooms in the Texas countryside with beautiful vineyards, only 45 minutes from Houston, an hour from Austin, or San Antonio.

A printable map of this excellent wine trail throughout the country is available for a self-guided tour. See the Texas Independence Wine & Vine Trail.

Areas: Fayetteville, Carmine, La Grange, Bellville, Seally, Weimer, & Schulenburg.

Western Region

• High Plains Wine & Vine Trail

The Texas High Plains Wine Trail is in the premium Texas grape growing area, home to around 5,000 acres of wine grapes. Looking for a genuine Texas wine experience? Check out the self-guided High Plains Wine Trail today!

Areas: Brownfield, Levelland, Lubbock, and many more in small towns.

I will add more Wine Trails in Texas To Follow if I find them!

      Hi Stephanie,

Yes, the High Plains Wine Trail is the last one of this list. I also changed the link – so it will take you straight to the trail website.
