The city of Georgetown is located in Central Texas, a short drive from Austin and north of Round Rock. This small town is full of lovely architecture and natural beauty that everyone wants to see. What Is Georgetown, Texas, Known For?
Georgetown is known as the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.
Georgetown is also a popular destination in April when the red poppies spring up and blankets of red spread throughout the town. It’s also when the Red Poppy Festival begins. But Texas’s most beautiful town square is also beautiful during the holidays. I’ve been both times. Whether you go for the festival, the holidays, or any time in between, you’ll have a good time visiting historic Georgetown and its unique places on the square.

Top Attractions in Georgetown, TX
Georgetown is for everyone, whether you go with a girlfriend, as a couple, or with the whole family. It’s family-friendly, pet-friendly, and full of things to do – including golf, visiting a tasting room or two, breweries, parks with trails, a cavern, a river, and so much more.
Georgetown is beautiful! The city is simply gorgeous. Not just the town square for which they are known, but from tall trees everywhere to green grass at every corner, to the historic homes with manicured lawns, and all the brand new homes we saw. It’s a place many consider living in who want to be close to Austin.

Inner Space Cavern
Inner Space Cavern is located in Georgetown, 20 miles north of Austin. It’s open daily from 9 am to 4 pm, with extended hours during the summer and on weekends.
Three types of guided tours:
- Adventure Tour – the one most people go on.
- The Hidden Passages Tour: Flashlight included to get down and intimate with the cave.
- Wild Cave Tour: We called this one “only for the brave.” This one might be for you if you like getting up close, face-to-face with the cave …on your knees and full body. $125 for a 4-hour guided tour. It’s definitely for the adventurer!

Our Adventure Tour guide was not only a great speaker but also a retired biology teacher. He was very knowledgeable about this cave, especially because of his past profession. It was one of the best cave tours I’ve ever been on …and I like caves! See the website for prices and the new zip-lining course on the property.
Garey Park
Garey Park is a great place to take the kids. The park has over 7 miles of trails, a play ranch, a dog ranch, pavilions with picnic tables, equestrian amenities, and more. You can enjoy nature and wildlife, and there is access to the South San Gabriel River.
Admission: $2/resident – $4/nonresident
San Gabriel Park
One of the best things to do in Georgetown is to visit San Gabriel Park. The park features many 200-year-old oak trees that provide visitors with ample shade. Access the San Gabriel River, which features the San Gabriel River Trail, a Playscape for kids, fishing, and lots of ducks that will enjoy your company. My son loved it here when we visited a couple of years ago.
But that’s not all. Bring your sports equipment for soccer, sand volleyball, basketball, softball, and disc golf. Bring a family picnic and enjoy the day here. Restrooms are available.

Top Attractions in Georgetown Historical Square
Georgetown Square is a happening place. The walkable and beautiful town square features restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, art galleries, historical sites, wineries, and ice cream shops! It’s a dream for me with every visit. Not only is Georgetown a quaint town, but it is also the most beautiful town square in Texas! But I bet you knew that already.
Below are a few attractions located right on the square.
Georgetown Palace Theatre
If you can see a show, you’re in for a treat. This former historic retro movie house has hosted live productions year-round for the past ninety years. See the Palace Theatre for the rotating productions showing in 2026.
The Williamson Museum
The Williamson Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of Williamson County, established in 1848. The museum has a wide collection of artifacts from the area and exhibits that cover all aspects of the county’s past. Some exhibits include:
- A display of Texas history and culture, including information on early settlers at the Gault Archaeological Site.
- 175th Year of Williamson County display.
- Local Native Americans who once lived here.
- The full story (and photos) of Barbette the Performer (if you remember him back in the mid-1930s.
Admission: Free, but donations are appreciated.

Georgetown Public Library, Art & Murals
An award-winning public library on 8th Street, featuring a variety of art, would make a great stop on a public art walk tour. The art piece above is a must-see, located across the street from the library. It rotates! If you like murals, you’ll also love the paintings on the walls throughout Georgetown.
Rentsch Brewery
Rentsch Brewery is a family-owned and operated brewery in Georgetown. It has won awards for its beer at the Great American Beer Festival (North America’s largest annual beer competition) three times. They have also been named “Texas Brewery of the Year” twice!
Blue Hole Park
Limestone bluffs border this picturesque lagoon and offer trails, picnic areas & a wading area. A great spot for family fun! Located at 100 Blue Hole Park Rd.
Georgetown Art Center
Many cool art pieces and masterpieces are in the square on South Main Street. Admission is free. While there, look for the beautiful white church called the Grace Heritage Center – it’s also stunning inside.
Sheraton Austin Georgetown
Sheraton Austin Georgetown – a Marriott Bonvoy Hotel is situated among Georgetown’s greenery and is minutes from the town square. It’s the only full-service hotel in Georgetown that has a small-town feel everyone loves.
The Sheraton was our host hotel, and our room overlooked the heated pool and the hiking trails. We were so tempted to take a swim, but the rain said no. But there is always a next time!

Restaurants In Georgetown, Texas
You’ll probably want a bite to eat in the square or around town. Not a problem here – from diners with happy hours, affordable pizza for the family, and upscale dining to restaurants with a view, you’ll no doubt find a favorite restaurant in Georgetown.
• Blue Corn Harvest Bar & Grill
When we arrived in town, we stopped by the visitor center and walked over to Blue Corn Harvest for a Mexican Southwestern-style lunch. It was hard to choose what to eat because, as you can see, the menu is full of delicious food. We opted for the fish tacos and the salmon lunch. So much food!
If you like eating on outside patios in cool weather, this one is heated!
• 600 Degrees Pizzeria
A family place for wine, beer, and the best pizza in town is at 600 Degrees Pizzeria.
Travel Tip: Lines are always long, but you can put your name on the list and go shopping. Your phone will beep when your table is ready – perfect!
• Monument Cafe
We were told breakfast is a must at Monument Cafe …and it’s true. Besides the yummy omelet I ordered and my friend Amanda’s order of corned beef hash, we’re not sure which we enjoyed more – the Kale Powerhouse juice or the cinnamon roll we took for the road trip home. We tried to even out our meal!
Travel Tip: Lines can get long. We ate at the bar.
• Brix And Ale
The on-site restaurant at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown, Brix And Ale is a Texas cuisine delight. Amanda told me she orders eggs Benedict whenever she dines for breakfast at somewhere new. It did not disappoint, but she got full before finishing it up! I ordered an omelet with egg whites because I knew we were eating again later that day.

We didn’t make it here, but we heard the sharing plates and international eats are spot on. Next time!
Red Poppy Festival
Georgetown will celebrate its annual Red Poppy Festival with music, entertainment, family fun, and over 100 artisan vendors. Enjoy three days of RED …everywhere!
If there is time in your visit, you may want to check out Lake Georgetown (kayak rentals), the beautiful Georgetown Courthouse, Southern University, and so much more in this quaint town.
