SugarBacon

One of the best McKinney square restaurants I can not say enough good things about is SugarBacon. This restaurant offers New American eats with a Southern flair, plus cocktails, beer & wine, and comfy digs.

But they offer more than that. The service was terrific from the moment we walked through the front door. Hearing the server describe each menu item made my mouth water. When the food was delivered, I couldn’t wait to dig in! Just look at their signature item (above), perfectly called SugarBacon.

That’s house-smoked pork belly, ancho BBQ sauce, and bread & butter pickles, plated as a starter, though I could totally eat this for lunch! I went with the tender pulled pork sandwich for my meal and knew I had made the right choice!

patina green

Patina Green

Patina Green serves real, farm-to-table food. They have a seasonal lunch menu, farm-fresh produce, and some of the best tomato soup you’ll ever eat.

The restaurant sources curated home goods and artisanal gifts, and I loved shopping while waiting for our lunch.

The reason for Patina Green Home and Market is simple . . . we live our lives this way.

While it was hard to decide what to order, I went with the Hickory Smoked Ham / Smoked Cheddar / Jalapeno Peach Jelly / Jalapeno Cheddar Loaf sandwich. I ate the entire thing because it was that good! There’s a reason this sandwich was voted as the top sandwich in Texas by Food Network. It was perfect in every way!

snug

Snug On The Square

Snug on the Square is a cozy coffeehouse serving a variety of yummy breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, and salads, along with freshly made bakery goods and coffee. Their omelets are made-to-order, the soup is fresh and hot, the salads are perfect, and their coffee brings the ideal way to start the day!

The best part (besides the ham, egg, and cheese sandwich or the pimento cheese) is you can order breakfast and lunch all day long!

Editor’s Note: I’ve added more historic downtown McKinney restaurants to this list because I was there not too long ago when I participated in the Food Walks of Texas with Tall Paul.

Hugs Cafe

Peach Gobbler (not cobbler) Sandwich (not dessert, but a sandwich). The sandwich I had was turkey, cheddar cheese, bacon, and lettuce topped with homemade peach chutney, which I bought a jar of because it was that good. So sorry, but no photo.

If you get the chance, do read the story about Hugs Cafe. When Tall Pall was telling us about it, he had a tear in his eye.

The Pantry

A must-try: Chocolate Cream Pie – The best I’ve ever tasted.

While there, we also sampled alcohol-infused ice cream from Cocktail Creamery, which shares space with The Pantry, which is a killer idea!!

CT Provisions

Neither of us partook in Eastern Canadian Oyster and a Gin Martini that we were served. Well, I tried the drink, but it wasn’t my favorite, and the last time I ate an oyster, I about gagged, so I gave mine up. I think my mom and I were the only ones that didn’t eat the oyster. Other than that, I would definitely go back and try something different. I loved the atmosphere.

Goodies Texas

Goodies Texas is a candy store on the square next to Patina Green. We ended our tour here with a truffle sample of our choosing.

McKinney’s Second Saturday Art On The Square

Make sure you check out the complete list of restaurants in Downtown McKinney Square and plan a visit soon! Even better, visit during the city’s Second Saturday for entertainment, late-night shopping, dining, and something for everyone to enjoy.

Whether you’ve lived here for years or you’re a first-time visitor, Second Saturday is a great time to rediscover something new about Downtown McKinney. Second Saturday Art on the Square is an event that occurs on the Second Saturday of each month (Apr thru Sep) from 7 – 9 pm in Downtown McKinney, TX.
