Visit the geographic center of the state so you can say you’ve done it!

Brady, Texas, in McCulloch County, is situated in the upper western portion of the Hill Country, approximately a two-hour drive from San Antonio and a three-hour drive from Fort Worth. It’s home to many attractions, including outdoor recreation, historical sites, and the annual World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off, taking place this Labor Day Weekend 2025. Step into what is known as the “heart of Texas and check out these things to do in Brady, TX.

The town boasts a charming downtown square with shops, restaurants, and a beautiful courthouse. So, whether you’re into deer hunting, fishing, antique shopping, or you want to be able to say you’ve stood in the center of Texas, Brady is a great choice to visit for that small-town vibe. I spent one night at the Trucountry Inn Hotel located on the town square, and walked around the square. It was a Sunday, so most everything was closed.

Things To Do In Brady, TX

I drove to Brady after stopping in San Saba to tour the town there. The entire drive was incredible, and my GPS took me on backroads I’d never been on before, so that was nice to see scenic views for the first time. I made a reservation at Trucountry Inn and chose the cheapest room they had available. The price for a travel writer was affordable. See below to find out why I was upgraded to a better room upon arrival.

1. Heart of Texas Country Music Museum

Discover the history of Texas Country Music and the Country Music Industry with over 100 artists represented at the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum.

Address: 1701 S. Bridge Street, Brady. Open Friday-Sunday, or by appointment. Call (325) 597-1895. Free Admission.

2. Heart of Texas Historical Museum

Besides being located in the beautiful 1910 historic red brick building (the former McCulloch Jail), the Heart of Texas Historical Museum is a gem for anyone who loves Texas heritage and aviation history. Expect to see exhibits such as the control tower from Curtis Field, a World War II pilot training base, flight books, uniforms, a large model airplane engine collection, and more.

The museum has also been named one of the “finest small towns” in Texas. The building itself has a story. Be sure to read about it.

Address: 117 North High Street, Brady (across the street from Trucountry Inn). Friday-Sunday. Free admission.

3. Historic Downtown Square

Brady’s historic downtown square, featuring a 1900 Romanesque Revival-style courthouse at its center, offers a variety of attractions, including several antique stores, charming boutiques, and several restaurants, as well as the Brady Brewer. So while your husband may be there for the deer hunting and you came along, the courthouse square is a nice place to hang out.

4. Evridge’s Furniture Store

In 1952, I.G. Evridge opened the business as an appliance store and later added furniture. Today, the Evridge family continues to own and operate the store. Located on the town square. When I was there, it was closed. Someone told me it’s gorgeous inside and that I should come back when I have the chance.

5. Stay at Trucountry Inn Hotel

Stay in your favorite country-themed guest room at Trucountry Inn. As I mentioned earlier, I chose the cheapest room because my finances are tight. It was the Billy the Kid guest room where the bathroom was in the hall. When I arrived, the nice man behind the counter suggested I move to another room for a more comfortable experience. So I was upgraded to the George Strait-themed guest room. That was very nice of him to do that for me at no extra charge. I was also the only guest staying there that night!

6. Brady Brewing Co.

Have a beer and a burger at Brady Brewing Co., across the street from Trucountry Inn. If you’re staying at the hotel, you’ll receive a 10% discount on your meal. They own the restaurant.

7. Fair Weather Farm

A 26-acre seasonal event and farm located just outside of Brady.

Several events include a Spring Fest in April, a Pumpkin Fest in October, and a New Year’s Eve Fest on December 31st.

8. Brady Lake

Just five miles west of town, anglers flock to the area for fishing and the large largemouth bass. There are also camping sites and RV hookups with serene views overlooking the lakeside.

9. Brady Golf Course

Play a round of golf at the Municipal 9-hole golf course, a short distance from downtown Brady.
