Conroe Is A Family Destination

Here is why we think Conroe is a family destination for a summer vacation.

It’s hard to beat a town bordered by a lake and a forest. Conroe, Texas, is 40 miles north of Houston and just under a 3-hour drive from Dallas, and is best known for Lake Conroe, the home of one of the Margaritaville Resorts in the United States, and the entrance to Sam Houston National Forest. Read why my family thinks Conroe is a family destination for every budget!

Visit Conroe hosted Chastity and her family. All opinions are her very own.

Conroe is a family destination

Conroe Is A Family Destination!

From shopping, craft breweries, a 22,000-acre lake, museums, delicious dining, parks, a national forest, and amazing accommodations, there are endless amounts of exciting things to do in Conroe, Texas. It is a great weekend getaway and a fun town in the Pineywoods to explore! Below are ten fun and exciting reasons we think Conroe is a family destination for everyone.

1. Water Sports On Lake Conroe

Lake Conroe is the crown beauty of this exciting town. It spans 22,000 acres with more than 150 miles of shoreline. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming on the lake. Bring your boat, hire a fishing guide, or rent a boat, kayak, or SUP at one of the many rental shops on the lake.

If you want a trophy bass fish, try your luck on Lake Conroe. While kayaking with my son, we saw so many fish and wished we had brought our poles out on the water.

Fact: Lake Conroe is one of the best lakes in Texas to live on. It’s clean, large, and beautiful – and the weather isn’t bad either!

2. Book A Stay At Margaritaville Resort Lake Conroe

This waterfront paradise is the “perfect blend of lake latitude and island attitude!” The Margaritaville Resort Lake Conroe features over 300 luxury suites, 32 waterfront cottages, and endless amenities.

Margaritaville Resort Amenties

The resort has multiple pools and waterpark, pickle ball, tennis, mini golf, fitness center, boat rentals, sandy beach, fire pits, putt-putt golf, restaurants, poolside bars, and plenty of outdoor activities for kids. Whether you’re a Parrothead or someone needing a getaway to relax and feel like you are on a tropical island without leaving Texas, this is the resort for you.

3. Enjoy A Massage At The Spa

If relaxing poolside with a cold drink didn’t do the trick, book a massage at the St. Somewhere Spa located at the Margaritaville Resort to get that vacation mode we all want. While the kids are off doing their own thing, you can relax at the spa and choose from the many body treatments they offer. I booked a 60-minute deep tissue massage, and it was divine! Afterward, guests can enjoy the whirlpool tub, steam rooms, lounge, and showers.

4. Learn About Texas History

Lone Star Flag Monument & Historical Flag Park is the spot to visit to learn about the 13 flags that fly over Texas. It was built to pay tribute to the United States veterans and those who sacrificed their lives for this great country. This outdoor museum park is free and great for the history buff or those wanting to learn more about Texas. The 3.5-acre park features the flags of Texas, ranging from the Alamo flag, the “Liberty or Death” flag, and the famous “Come and Take It” flag.

The Texian, a 14-foot bronze sculpture depicting a soldier during the Texas Revolution, sits at the center of the park. Behind the park is the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park. You can follow the path and stroll around the pond to enjoy the memorial.

5. Visit A Brewery

B52 Brewery Co. is a unique and laid-back brewery. They have over 20 house-brewed beers on tap and a large wine selection. Grab a glass of beer and head out to the shaded beer garden with picnic tables and lawn games to enjoy.

Guests can also order pizza or BBQ from one of the food trucks on the property. Check their monthly calendar for happy hours, bingo, trivia nights, and live music.

6. Stroll Through Historic Downtown Conroe

Downtown Conroe is adorable and has that small-town charm. Enjoy an afternoon browsing the boutiques, antique stores, and art galleries, and dine at one of the cafes.  My favorite store was Branding Iron, and I found these fun candles that smell like my favorite characters in Yellowstone. I couldn’t leave the store without purchasing one of each!

7. Take An Art Bench Photo Tour

While visiting the downtown area, take a walking photo tour. Downtown has 13 art benches that depict the history of Conroe.

The art benches were created by local artists, showcasing everything from the oil boom, the train depot from the late 1800s, and the county fair to the World War II airport.

8. Take A Sunset Boat Tour

Head to Einstein’s Surf & Boat Shop at Margaritaville Resort to embark on a two-hour sunset cruise. The 2-hour “Tiki Hut” party barge takes 35 guests around Lake Conroe while enjoying music and light snacks. The sunset over Lake Conroe is stunning and something you don’t want to miss. Be sure to check out the Lake Conroe dinner cruise, too.

9. Hike Through A Forest

Lace-up those hiking boots and spend a few hours exploring Sam Houston National Forest and W.G. Jones State Forest.

Sam Houston National Forest is only one of four National Forests in Texas. With over 163,000 acres, there is no shortage of hiking trails! The most popular trail is the Lone Star Hiking Trail. It’s over 120 miles but is broken up into smaller sections, making hiking more manageable.

W.G. Jones State Forest is a working urban forest managed by Texas A&M Forestry Service. The forest has over 15 miles of trails and is a sanctuary for the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker. So be sure to bring your binoculars!

10. Eat Your Way Through Conroe

The food scene in Conroe, Texas, is Texas-style cuisine. There is everything from American flare to upscale dining here.

Pie In The Sky

Grab a slice of homemade pie from Pie in the Sky. This great lunch spot has soups, salads, sandwiches, and assorted desserts.

McKenzie’s BBQ

McKenzie’s BBQ serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner—great food with a relaxed atmosphere.

Honor Cafe

Owned by a veteran, Honor Cafe is a great breakfast and lunch spot with a special Thursday night dinner special. The food is amazing, and I love that it supports our military.

Urban Crust

If you are looking for casual lake-side dining, head to Urban Crust. You can order a salad or customize your pizza, then enjoy your meal on the patio overlooking Lake Conroe.

All the unique and exciting things to do in Conroe make this Texas city a must-visit place for families, couples, and family reunions. Whether you are looking for an adventurous outdoor getaway, a golf trip with your buddies, or shopping and dining with the girls, you will have a memorable time in Conroe, TX. Now, I bet you also think Conroe is a family destination. What are you waiting for!! Be sure to visit Conroe’s website for all the latest fun and attractions.
