Texas is full of small-town getaways for couples to visit throughout the year. Many of them are romantic getaways offering a special package for Valentine’s Day. For a romantic getaway with your loved one, consider one of these destinations, and don’t forget to pack champagne, chocolate, and a dozen roses.

Small-Town Romantic Getaways in Texas

Romance is in the air – can you feel it? Why not go for that extra dose of romance this year on Valentine’s Day and book a weekend getaway at one of these best places in Texas? I’m sure most of us could use it. I have listed a few. So, cozy up this February 14th, a make it a memorial experience. And, if it’s not for V-day, go anyway!

1. Granbury (near Fort Worth)

Enjoy the nightlife and its historic town square full of restaurants with outside seating, breweries, and boutiques. Granbury Lake is within walking distance from the square if it’s not too chilly for a walk. Several places are offering extra goodies for Valentine’s Day. A Granbury romantic getaway might be what you need to rekindle your relationship.

2. Brenham (East Texas)

I think Brenham is one of the most charming towns in East Texas. It boasts beautiful historic buildings, and its downtown is full of shopping and dining. And you might even catch a live event while you’re there. And, if you’re there during the week, hop on over to the Blue Bell Creamery for a scoop of ice cream for $1. Other charming small towns are close by and are swarming with cuteness. I’m sure there are plenty of BnBs in the area. Get to know Brenham a little better in this article – 11 Best Things To Do In Charming Brehanm, TX.

Gruene, Texas - New Braunfels

3. Gruene (New Braunfels)

A small town with a lot of charm is what you’ll find in Gruene. I can’t think of a better small town to visit with my spouse. With the Guadalupe River running through it and pleasant weather in that part of Texas, I can see walking along the banks, dipping my toes in the water – freezing or not, and having a picnic with my favorite bottle of wine. For an evening out and maybe some dancing, make plans to at Gruene Hall – the oldest dance hall in Texas. This could be one of the best romantic getaways in Texas you’ll ever experience.

4. Kemah (Houston Area)

Nightlife on the Kemah Boardwalk would make an excellent getaway for couples. It’s dark, and the lights shining off the water give just enough light to grab a kiss when she least expects it. It’s just so romantic out there. Perhaps rent a houseboat for the night and have a romantic dinner on the bow. If that’s not available, Kemah Boardwalk offers fantastic waterfront dining.

Petrified old building in Glen Rose

5. Glen Rose (near Fort Worth)

Who said outdoor activities aren’t romantic? It’s who you’re with that matters. If both of you are outdoorsy, a road trip to the Dinosaur Valley State Park will make a perfect getaway. Lots of hiking and looking for dinosaur bones would be fun. Glen Rose’s historic downtown square has excellent restaurants and shops, and you can make it a romantic walk with a glass of wine in one hand and a red rose in the other – sound romantic?

6. Fredericksburg (Heart of Hill Country)

I must mention Fredericksburg – you know it is an excellent place to visit if it’s on every list. Valentine’s Day in Fredericksburg has prepared something special. And if you like wine, you’ll be amazed at all the wineries in this area.

Have you heard of the Texas Wine Trail? They offer four wine trails a year at participating Texas Hill Country wineries, and the first one of the year is in February. It’s called Wine Lover’s Celebration. This would make a perfect romantic getaway and complete your romantic stay.

7. Wimberley (A Texas Hill Country Charmer)

For a nice romantic cabin in the woods, choose the quaint town Wimberley – a hidden hill country gem. For a better night of it, choose one with a hot tub in the backyard. Looking at Airbnb or Vrbo will be your best bet here.

Grapevine Grapefest

8. Grapevine (North Texas)

This town never stops amazing its visitors. This town is booming with all the action on Main Street and the Gaylord Hotel. Grapevine is always a place to go for all occasions. And, if you’re a wine connoisseur who loves wine tastings, you’re in luck because there are about 11 wineries on Main Street – no need to get in the car to drive to each, except if going to the one further north – called Cross Timbers Winery. It’s the first one of its kind to open in Grapevine, and still going strong. They offer outdoor weddings too.

9. Horseshoe Bay (THC – Marble Falls)

Horseshoe Bay is a prime small town for romance, especially if you stay at Horseshoe Bay Resort – a golf and spa resort known to have excellent Valentine’s Day packages. Plus, the hill country scenic views are something to behold.

10. Cat Springs (Houston)

Blisswood Bed & Breakfast Ranch offers packages to couples hoping to have a romantic Valentine’s. Packages can include fresh flowers in your room, chocolate-dipped strawberries, a bottle of champagne, and more. You can be as relaxed or active as you want, as this is a working ranch with plenty of outdoor activities for guests. I wrote an article on Family Fall at Blisswood B&B Ranch that may interest you.

11. Dripping Springs (THC)

After all, Dripping Springs IS the Wedding Captial of Texas. So while you’re there, you may want to plan a proposal. You are your partner, can visit the waterfalls in Dripping Springs and all the quaint restaurants, breweries, and wineries in the area – there’s plenty there!

White Oak Manor B&B (where I stayed)

12. Jefferson (East Texas)

Jefferson has always been a romantic town because of all the available bed & breakfast inns. I don’t know one person who wouldn’t want to wake up to a nice home-cooked breakfast waiting on the other side of the door. During the pandemic, the B&Bs I went to left my breakfast at the bedroom door, but now that’s over, breakfast is served in the common area. If you wanted to eat your breakfast privately, you could request that. Jefferson is full of history, has a walkable downtown, and quite a few attractions to do while you’re there. If you like the outdoors, I wrote an article about the best outdoor things to do in and around Jefferson, TX, if you would like to read it.

13. Camp Lucy (Dripping Springs)

Camp Lucy is a great place to spend time at any time of the year. I had the pleasure of staying two nights there in early 2022 and was mesmerized every time I drove to and from the house over the one-lane bridges over the creek. I loved that drive. If you called them and requested a special package for Valentine’s Day weekend, I bet they would set you up. I’m almost positive this luxury hotel venue will have a few special romance packages available because it’s a popular wedding venue. Be sure to check out Tillies, its on-site upscale restaurant and bar.

14. Shady Villa Hotel (formerly the Stagecoach Inn) (Salado)

Salado in Central Texas is a small quaint town and a short drive to Austin. I would stop there on my way home from the hill country when traveling on I35 to shop in the quaint boutiques. I always found something I liked. From what I remember, some shops are not open on Sunday. But, for a romantic stay in a historic hotel, opt for a romantic stay at the Shady Villa Hotel. The Stagecoach Restaurant is a great dinner option and is located on-site.

15. JL Bar Ranch (Sonora)

One more romantic place in the hill country. This one has its own private airport. Check out the JL Bar Ranch for a weekend stay. Texas couples love this place for its resort-style amenities, including a spa, a beautiful pool, horseback riding, an upscale dinner menu, and nearby golf courses. Oh, wow, this would be my pick for romantic getaways in Texas.

Oh, which one of these small-town TX for couples is your favorite? Do tell.
