Check out these secluded getaways in Texas for couples who love the outdoors!

When most people think of Texas, they think of big hair, horses, and wide open spaces. But what if I told you that Texas is an excellent destination for romantic getaways? It’s true! Texas is full of amazing secluded getaways for couples! Whether you are looking for luxurious amenities or a romantic cabin in the woods, Texas has you covered.

While many places to get away in Texas with your loved one, these eight spots below are incredibly wonderful for the outdoor-loving couple.

The spots listed are perfect for a romantic getaway, so grab your sweetie and start booking your trip today!

1. Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Rough it at the park’s campground

If you and your sweetie are looking for the ultimate secluded getaway in Texas, hop in the car and head west to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Home to more than 10,000 years of human history, there is plenty to explore at this remote national park.

During your time here, you can enjoy scenic drives, miles of hiking trails, and wildlife watching. The exposed remains of the horseshoe-shaped Captain Reef that formed beneath the ocean over 250 million years ago is a popular spot.

However, note that you won’t find romantic cabins in this park. Instead, you and your sweetie will be “roughing it” at the park’s campgrounds. The park offers a few modern amenities like potable water, a utility sink for dishwashing, and restrooms with flushable toilets.

2. Big Bend National Park

Escape to this secluded park

Another fabulous national park to add to your list of romantic getaways in Texas is Big Bend National Park. This 800,000-acre national park in far west Texas is the definition of secluded!

Big Bend is a fabulous place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life while experiencing three unique habitats: river, desert, and mountains. As the largest protected area of the Chihuahuan Desert, Big Bend is home to numerous plant and animal species waiting to be discovered.

During your visit to Big Bend, you can enjoy gorgeous hikes, drive past breathtaking scenery, or spend your day kayaking in the beautiful river. The choice is really up to you!

To make this a romantic getaway, why not stay in one of the cottages offered by the Chisos Mountain Lodge, the only lodging option available within the park? Just be sure to make your reservation well in advance, as these cozy cabins book up fast!

3. Enchanted Rock State Park

Romance your sweetie on the pink granite rock

The beautiful Texas Hill Country offers numerous destinations that make for an easy-to-plan romantic trip. One of these options is Enchanted Rock State Park.

Enchanted Rock’s giant pink granite dome-shaped rock is the main draw to this state park. People have visited Enchanted Rock for years as it is said to have magical powers. We don’t know for sure about that, but we do know that it makes a fabulous romantic getaway.

During your time at Enchanted Rock, you can hike, rock climb, geocache, or relax and stargaze.

Now granted, this state park only offers campsites, but what is more romantic than sleeping under the stars with the one you love?!

4. Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Glamp instead of camp

Consider visiting Palo Duro Canyon, State Park, for a secluded getaway. Located in the Texas Panhandle, near Amarillo and Canyon, Palo Duro Canyon State Park houses the second-largest canyon in the United States.

This secluded area is the perfect place to unplug from life and recharge with your loved one. The park offers opportunities for hiking, biking, bird watching, geocaching, and more. One of my favorite things to do in the park is to take a guided horseback tour with Old West Stables.

If you are visiting the park during the summer months, don’t miss the live production of the TEXAS Outdoor Musical. The exhibition runs Tuesday through Sunday during the summer (June-August) at the Pioneer Amphitheater in the park. The show highlights the lives of the early settlers to Texas and even includes a fireworks show!

When you are looking for accommodations, then be sure to check out the glamping sites that are available inside the state park.

5. North Padre Island

Lounge on the unspoiled beach

While South Padre Island is best known as a spring break party town, North Padre Island is known as a quiet refuge in nature. This is because the Padre National Seashore is located on North Padre Island.

The Padre National Seashore is a 70-mile stretch of an undeveloped barrier island, making it the perfect place for a secluded getaway in Texas.

Spend your days lounging on the unspoiled beach as you soak in the Texas sun before you wind down at night in a romantic cabin. Numerous vacation rentals are available in the area; some even include a private hot tub or pool. Now, that makes for a great getaway for sure!

6. Dripping Springs

The perfect place for a proposal

You can’t have a list of secluded getaways in Texas and not include the darling town of Dripping Springs. Located about 20 miles west of Austin, Dripping Springs offers secluded cabins, great wineries, and distilleries. It is nicknamed the “Wedding Capital of Texas,” so it must be romantic, right?

While in town, make a plan to visit Dripping Springs waterfalls. And, of course, you can also enjoy a romantic dinner in town or a wine tasting at the many wineries and tasting rooms in the area.

For accommodations, I suggest checking out one of the secluded cabins in the area. These cabins are great for a weekend getaway, as many have an outdoor fireplace or a front porch with rocking chairs!

7. Glen Rose

Find dinosaur tracks together

It’s easy to plan a secluded getaway in Glen Rose, Texas. This charming small town, located about 85 miles southwest of Dallas, and about 54 miles from Fort Worth, makes for an easy and fun weekend getaway.

Most famous for its dinosaur history, a visit to Glen Rose is anything but boring. You can enjoy exploring the prehistoric footprints preserved in Dinosaur Valley State Park or spend the day relaxing on the Paluxy River.

In addition to the outdoor activities around Glen Rose, the town also offers some fun local restaurants and boutique shops for you to explore.

You can enjoy staying in a romantic bed and breakfast, an authentic log cabin, or a train car. The options are endless in this town.

8. Bandera

Become a cowboy and cowgirl for the day!

If the thought of staying in the ‘Cowboy Capital of the World’ sounds romantic, you should book a trip to the hill country town of Bandera, Texas.

A fun and secluded getaway to consider in Bandera are to spend some time at one of the many dude ranches. Here you can enjoy the rustic charm of a cozy cabin before enjoying nights on the front porch under the stars.

Of course, the dude ranches here are also full of activities to enjoy. Visitors can get the true cowboy experience through horseback riding, cooking over an outdoor fire pit, and country and western dancing at night.

Just a short drive into town allows you to enjoy the charm of old-fashioned soda fountains and boutique shops in the small town of Bandera.

I hope you both enjoy your time at one of these secluded getaways in Texas for couples.
