East Texas Lakes With Cabins
Something to note if you’re traveling to the piney woods of Deep East Texas – you will be among the best lakes in Texas and one of the largest lakes in East Texas …and perhaps lots of mosquitoes, too! So, if you’re looking for lake cabins for rent in Texas, depending on the time of year, you’ll want to pack accordingly.
Did you know?
In far Deep East Texas, Toledo Bend Reservoir on the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana is the largest manufactured body of water. It is the largest in the South and the fifth largest by surface acre in the United States. And …the fishing ain’t bad either – I hear!
Did you know?
The alluring Neches River that begins in Van Zandt County flows for 416 miles through 14 counties in the piney woods of east Texas, as it continues to flow into Sabine Lake near the Rainbow Bridge.

Lake Livingston State Park
Livingston, TX
Texas’ second largest lake is Lake Livingston. Fishing is good for catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass, but Lake Livingston is known for white bass. The park has boat ramps, cleaning stations, and a fishing pier, allowing bank fishing. If you want to know, there are alligators in Lake Livingston, but they only come out at night! Ha, (I think this is true), and they are rarely seen during the day.
There are many campsites in the park with full hookups and screen shelter-type cabins, but there are also many cabins with amenities. Check out Outback Campground and Marina for waterfront cabins and non-waterfront cabins. There are also a few friendly cabins, fully furnished kitchens, and more on VRBO and Airbnb.
Lake Palestine
Lake Palestine has excellent success with its largemouth bass tournaments. White bass runs up the Neches River and Kickapoo Creeks in the spring, making it a prevalent time to fish for them.
If you want to rent jet skies, here is a Lake Palestine jet ski rental place to consider – Power Water Sports Rental.
If you’re looking for the perfect place for lakeside lodging, check out Lake Palestine Resort. My mom and I had a great time last year on a mother-daughter trip to Palestine, Texas. We rode the Texas State Railroad Train through the Dogwoods.
Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort
Mount Vernon, TX
A little over an hour’s drive from Dallas to Mt. Vernon are cabins for every lifestyle. You’ll conveniently find a relaxing place on Deer Lake and Dream Lake. If you seek romance, there are cabins with modern conveniences like a hot tub, full bathrooms, kitchens, air conditioning, and more. Look into Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort for a luxury getaway by the lake.
Lake O’ The Pines
Jefferson, TX, on Big Cypress Bayou
As locals call it, Lake O’ has been deemed one of the most excellent lakes to live on in East Texas. Locals say it’s the prettiest lake in East Texas, too. WOW, those two reasons would make anyone want to visit! The big Cypress trees and the tall, beautiful pine trees must be the center of it all. And, if you like this town, check out these outdoor things to do in Jefferson, TX.
Fishing doesn’t have to be the main reason we flock to lakes in East Texas, but if it is, white bass loves the Cypress Bayou. Boating and swimming are also fun to do here.

Caddo Lake State Park
There aren’t many natural lakes in Texas, and Caddo Lake is Texas’ only natural lake (actual lake).
Natural lakes have been a rare commodity in Texas. In fact, the state had only one natural lake, Caddo Lake in East Texas, that was formed by a log jam. A permanent dam was installed at the lake in the early 20th century.
Lodging options are everywhere. You can stay as close as you want to Caddo Lake, in the park, or in Jefferson, which I visited a few years ago. There’s no wrong place to stay (I’ve heard about) in this area …and so much to do and see. Be sure to see Big Cypress Creek, and if time allows, take a boat tour on the lake to see Cypress trees, huge lily pads with flowers (in the spring for the flowers), and maybe even an alligator.

Lake Conroe
One of my favorite lakes in East Texas is Lake Conroe. I had the pleasure of staying at the Margaritaville Conroe Lake Resort last year and was amazed at the fun activities on the property. Besides the resort, there are vacation homes to rent, cabins on the lake, and plenty of boat rental companies in case you don’t bring your boat but want to view the lake on water.
And, yes, Lake Conroe has alligators – this surprised me.
Check out Stow-A-Way Marina And RV Park for cabins, cottages, boat slips, and outdoor fun.
For lake cabin vacation rentals, try Fisherman Cove Cabins. These look cozy, new, luxurious, and easy to access to the lake.
Lake Tyler
With Tyler’s mild winter climate, you could spend almost countless hours outdoors for most of the year. The Tyler area is filled with things to do for the entire family. And if you’re so inclined, visit the exquisite Lake Tyler Petroleum Club for a great time, cabin rentals, a wedding venue, and member-only benefits.
Note: If you’re in the Tyler area and need rental rides, check East Texas van and boat rental first.
Lake Bob Sandlin
Listen up if you like to fish – Lake Bob Sandlin boasts the top bass-fishing lake for anglers. Lake Bob Sandlin State Park has eight cabins that sleep 5 – perfect for anyone who goes fishing because I presume you’ll be in the boat all day, and the cabins are just there to sleep – right? Also, find outdoor grills, picnic tables, and everything you need to have a pleasant fishing trip with your buddies.
Cedar Creek Lake
I’m a little partial (ok, a lot) to Cedar Creek Lake because my family owned a lake house there for fifty years, yes – that long until my mom sold the house in December of 2021. Our home on the lake was our weekend getaway for many years until my parents retired there. When my father passed away, my mom kept it up (yard and all) for as long as she could. My memories will last throughout my life as we had so much fun playing on the water and learned how to water ski and drive a boat. As time passed, we paddle-boarded (well, some of us), renting jet skis, wakeboarding, and all the new stuff.
Even though we had a home there, there are now many cabins to rent, more so than when we were young. Check out Cedar Creek Lake Getaways and Triple H Retreat
Lake Fork
Quitman, TX
Lake Fork is about 65 miles east of Dallas and is best known for its fishing for largemouth bass. Bass fishing tournaments are held here annually.
Popes Landing Marina has only eight fully equipped waterfront cabins for rent starting at $149 a night. They also have motel rooms to rent out at $79 a night.
Lake Tawakoni
Wills Point, TX
Camping in state parks is very inexpensive, but not everyone wants to sleep in a tent –I don’t. If you have an RV, you can rent a spot here, but there are no cabins at Lake Tawakoni State Park—fish from a boat or the bank. Remember, you don’t need a fishing license to fish off the banks IN A STATE PARK. But don’t try to fish from shore anywhere else in Texas – you’ll get fined if caught.
Open Water Lodge has you covered, whether you are coming along on a fishing trip or a nice-sized family outing to have a great time.
