Mother-Daughter Road Trips In Texas are special memories!
She’s not my best friend – she’s my Mother (mom, I call her)! My mom and I have gone on several road trips in Texas and a few in other states (Oklahoma and Colorado). I took her on a road trip to Kansas, but my grandson was with us, so that doesn’t count, right? My story showcases five wonderful mother-daughter road trips in Texas in the last couple of years.

Ideas For A Mother-Daughter Road Trip
Weekend getaways with your mom can mean so much to her. I see how it affects mine. I take her to places she wouldn’t have gone by herself or places she never dreamed of going to. She ends up having so much fun. I jotted down a list of things we’ve done together that you and your mother could do if it’s something you both like.
- Have a spa weekend at a resort
- Paint with a twist
- Play board games all day long
- Enjoy a wine tasting in the Texas Hill Country
- Visit historic homes in small towns
- Invite her to your photoshoot (AARP did a story on me a couple of years ago – photo above)
- Call for room service
- Go to big cities
- Stroll a botanical garden
- Stay in a boutique hotel
- Have an early dinner, then go for ice cream
- Go berry picking
- Check out the local artists in town
- Peruse a farmers market or two
- Ride a train
There are so many mother-daughter trips in Texas to take, and we are just getting started!

Best Mother-Daughter Trips In Texas
I’ve been lucky to have a healthy mother that can travel. She’s 84 years old and still has wits about her. Though I can see that dwindling, and her memory is lapsing, there will still be mother-daughter road trips soon for us two.
We both enjoy each other’s company – more her than me. My mom is precious, but she is elderly, and there are certain things you have to do differently when traveling with an elderly person – but that’s for another article.
1. Book A Cabin In Waco, TX
I found a cozy cabin outside Waco that included a place outdoors where we could walk around and sit by the fire if we wanted to make one. Mom also brought her sweet Lily along. Lily is a Chihuahua Yorkie mix who is 15 years old. Lily doesn’t have much life left, so her mom likes to take her on trips when possible. She doesn’t like leaving her behind.
We visited Magnolia Market during Covid, so the lines were long, and we had to wear masks. But this is our second mother-daughter road trip to the Magnolia Market. This first time was when it was relatively new, and we had so much fun swinging on the swings outside. The swings are now gone.
We also visited an Amish area down the street from our cabin, where we made a tiny basket from clay. I’m sad that I can not find those pictures of this trip.
While mom and Lily stayed at the cabin and rested, I rode horseback at Brazos Bluff Ranch. She doesn’t want to do a few activities that I want, like horseback riding, and the time we went to Broken Bow, I zipped line, and she wasn’t about to do that!
2. Stay At The Courtyard By Marriott In San Antonio
This San Antonio trip was about six years ago. We visited a family member but enjoyed a riverboat ride and lunch on the San Antonio Riverwalk. Again, not sure where that photo is of her and I freezing our butts off on that riverboat ride. But an enjoyable time nonetheless.
3. We Picked Blueberries In Edom, TX
Mom and I took a wonderful day trip picking blueberries in sweet Edom in East Texas. It was very hot that day, but it was our first time picking blueberries. To make up for it, we enjoyed an ice cream. Blueberry Hill Farm is open in June and July for picking berries. It’s also an adorable town with quaint boutiques. Don’t go on a Monday, because all shops are closed.
4. Celebrate The Holidays In Grapevine
Grapevine was a day trip for us, as I live only 25 miles from town. But if you ever get a chance to take a trip with your mother somewhere fun, go to Grapevine during the holidays. The city spruces up Main Street as you’ve never seen before. All the stores are decked out – some more than others, and there is always an outdoor-themed setup (Charlie Brown, the Grinch, etc.) by the gazebo, complete with photo opportunities and fun galore! One year, there was fake snow falling from the sky.
5. Visit In April For The Palestine Dogwood Blooms
Our latest mother-daughter trip. Palestine, Texas – an East Texas charming town. From gorgeous scenic drives to numerous pines scattered everywhere, seeing the dogwood trees, to local cuisine and a cozy stay in the woods, we completed another trip together. Read the full story here – Mother-Daughter Trip To Palestine, TX.
6. Take A Tour Of Pears In Pearland, Texas
Oh, we had so much fun in Pearland counting all the pears, eating at Killen’s, visiting a sweet tea room, shopping, and making memories at One Board Chick. Check out everything we did – Mother and Daughter Road Trip To Pearland, TX.
One Last Mother-Daughter Road Trip
Even though Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is not in Texas, it was one of our favorite fall trips. We stayed in a gorgeous cabin with views of a running creek with trickling water coming off the rocks. The sounds of that were so peaceful. We also visited a wine-tasting room, had terrific meals, rode around Beavers Bend State Park, and enjoyed that warm cozy cabin and each other. I wrote a story about our trip here – Mother-Daughter Road Trip To Broken Bow.
I am a 61 year old widow looking for a three to four day getaway. My husband passed away 2yrs and 6 mths ago. There are many other responsibilities that have come up since that time. I NEED A VACATION from it all. I enjoy being near the water. Lakes. Rivers. I would like a nice room with a private balcony to return to after activities. I will be traveling alone.
HI Angie,
I don’t know where you live, so it’s hard to tell you a good place. But I do love New Braunfels. You’ll find everything there what you’re asking for. Good luck.
