Places To Go In Boerne TX

These amazing places to go in Boerne, TX, are not to be missed.

Boerne, Texas – a Texas Hill Country small-town charmer with just under 20,000 population. It’s south of charming Kerrville and Comfort on Hwy 10 and only a 25-minute drive north of San Antonio, making it a great day trip from the big city. It’s roughly a 4-hour trip from the Fort Worth Dallas area, so you’ll want to make it a weekend trip. Here are fantastic places to go in Boerne, TX, for the whole family.

The town has changed over the years if you haven’t been lately. The beautiful Cibolo Creek is a true hill country experience and one of my favorite places to visit. And, talking about shopping – Main Street, aka Hill Country Mile, is the perfect gathering place for a weekend of shopping, sipping, and relaxing with girlfriends, family, or even solo.

Small town main streets are the best, and you’ll find that in this town. Visit Boerne hosted my trip in 2021, but all information has been updated and is current. All opinions are my own.

Fun Places To Go In Boerne, TX, For The Whole Family

While there, I was in awe of the beautiful flowers, ponds, gardens, and public art I saw on Main Street. And I haven’t even mentioned all the shops, restaurants, and bars I saw. There was so much to see and do that I didn’t get to see it all done in one day, so I took a few more hours the next day to ensure I saw it all. I may have lingered too long at the Cibolo Creek picnic area, but that’s what you do. It’s beautiful and relaxing, and the ducks are so welcoming. Cibolo Creek is at the north end of Main Street.

What’s there not to love about shopping, eating, and strolling? To me, this combination is the perfect getaway! Well, you’re in for a treat in Boerne, and if you feel like it, you can add sipping to the mix. You’ll shop, eat, drink, sit, and repeat all up and down Main Street. And, if you don’t finish it all in one day, pick up where you left off the next day – simple!

When I arrived in Boerne, I went straight to Klein Smokehaus for lunch. I received the biggest Texas welcome from the owners, which continued throughout my 4-day stay. Boerne is a true Hill Country charming town and getaway, especially if you love to shop.

Places To Go In Boerne TX – Boutiques & Sweets On Main Street

Boerne’s Main Street, or Hill Country Mile, is a huge reason this small, charming town gets visitors daily and is a great street to do all your shopping. It’s a leisurely one-mile walk, where you’ll marvel over all the shops, boutiques, eateries, breweries, etc., that fill up historic buildings and modern storefronts.

There is plenty of shopping and dining in Boerne along Main Street, but don’t forget the side streets. Many fabulous boutiques, vintage stores, and funky art galleries exist on every street in town. There are no two boutiques that sell the same thing. So, everywhere I went, I saw something new. Here are a few shops I visited.

259 Home Market

This boutique has modern home decor and fabulous women’s clothes in the back. I bought the cutest jean dress here and wore it on my winery tours the next day.

A Little Nature Store

Don’t miss the cute garden at this bird store. The store has some unique things, but I adored the garden with benches to rest on and a water fountain to listen to, mostly. It was such a treat to sit, listen, and relax my feet.

Places To Go In Boerne TX

The Dienger Trading Co.

Located inside one of the oldest historic buildings in town is The Dienger Trading Co. Their boutique is a darling place to shop for trendy merchandise and clothing for women, men, and babies. And while you’re there, enjoy breakfast or lunch in the bistro.

Flashback Funtiques

Reminisce about the old days while strolling through the store.

Bear Moon Bakery

For the yummiest and largest chocolate cookie ever, stop by Bear Moon Bakery (before lunch!)

Texas Gourmet Pantry

Totally Texas here. They offer gift baskets filled with Texas merchandise and a variety of memorabilia and gifts.

There were so many other shops that I visited, and I found many cute things – from candles and pillows to antiques and handmade thank-you cards. One of the shops was off the beaten path, so don’t forget about those side streets.

Attractions In Boerne, Texas

If you’ve been up and down Main Street a million times and want to see and do other things, here is a list of places to go while you’re in town. You can be as busy as you want to be in Boerne!

Travel Tip: Boerne is also dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your pup along.

Cave Without A Name

Take a tour of The Cave Without A Name to see this wonderful gem and walk where moonshiners did many years ago. You’ll be amazed at all the old history involved with this cave. Then, go sluicing (panning for gold), which is on the premises (if it’s still there), and if you’re lucky, your bag will contain crystals, amethyst, and copper, to name a few. It was a fun activity for me. I hope it’s still there.

Camping and hiking trails are also available on the premises.

There is also another cave in Boerne called Cascade Caverns.

The Old Jail Museum

The Kendall County Historic Jail was built in 1887 and had been sitting there for years until two friends saw the value in its history and decided it needed to come back to life. They pulled together their resources and restored the place, which is now The Old Jail Museum. Don’t miss the chance to see the museum, especially if you’re into Texas history. Open for tours on Saturdays for $5.

Cibolo Nature Center

Bring the whole family here to hike through nature and have a picnic. Admission and parking are free.

River Road Park

This park is an excellent place to relax outside in the shade.

Sister Creek Vineyard in Sisterdale

Wineries Near Boerne, Texas

Grab the gang and head out to two of the wineries I visited. Along the way, you can marvel at the scenery of the Hill Country, and maybe you’ll find a new favorite wine.

Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyard

Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyard is an excellent winery for wine tasting. You’ll enjoy all Texas wines here at their new facility.

Sister Creek Vineyards

After visiting Saint Tryphon, take a 3-minute drive to Sister Creek Vineyards in Sisterdale, where you can enjoy the gorgeous surroundings and see the historic cotton gin that now houses their winery. Tastings and tours are available.

Boerne Breweries

There’s no shortage of breweries on Main Street. If you’re going for the beer, you’re in luck. Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. has an indoor-outdoor casual atmosphere, handcrafted house beers, and a farm-to-table menu. Tusculum Brewing Co. is another brewery on Main Street worth trying out for craft beers and listening to live music.

Restrautants In Boerne, TX

Black Rifle Coffee Co.

Start your day with a bold cup of coffee or a latte at Black Rifle Coffee Co., then walk over to Bear Moon Bakery for a gigantic cookie.

Klein Smokehaus

I had the best lunch at Klein Smokehaus. It’s been the town’s favorite butcher shop since 1950 and a great place to grab lunch. Their menu is full of meats and mouth-watering sides to complete your meal. If you’re deciding on brisket or smoked turkey …well, you really need to try the turkey – it’s the best I’ve ever had!

Blacksmith Grill (Closed)

Head to the grill for tasty old-fashioned hamburgers and the best shake in town!

Cypress Grill

Are you looking to perhaps go to dinner one night with just the adults? You’ll find fine dining here and your favorite bottle of wine and most of all – great service.

Places To Go In Boerne TX

259 Brantley’s Bistro

Head to 259 Brantley’s Bistro for eats and spirits. They have a darling porch, and the Boerne Mural is also there.

Peggy’s On The Green

Located adjacent to The Kendall, Peggy’s on the Green offers a lovely indoor setting for lunch and dinner. Serving all-American food with daily specials that are not on the menu. My friend who joined me for lunch said we had to order the homemade pimento cheese spread, and the waitress seconded it, so we did. I’m unsure what I liked best: that cheese spread or the fish tacos I ordered. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

If you’re considering staying at The Kendall – read this first – Review: The Kendall Hill Country Inn. It’ll make you want to stay even more!

Little Gretel Restaurant (Closed)

Welcome to handcrafted cuisine, where Owner and Executive Chef Denise serves various German food, American favorites, and the best authentic Czech food in the Hill Country. Find a seat inside or outside in the Biergarten at Little Gretel Restaurant and get ready to be in awe with the menu full of flavor, love, and German heritage.

Be sure to stop by the Visitors Center to pick up brochures on attractions and to learn about more places to go in Boerne, TX.

Towns Near Boerne, TX

If you’re looking for other small towns to visit in the Hill Country that are close to Boerne, try Dripping Springs, Johnson City, and Blanco. All three have lots to do and could make a great day trip.
