Georgetown, TX: A Great Road Trip From DFW

Let’s explore what makes a great road trip from Dallas/FTW.

Who doesn’t love road trips? A great road trip from DFW would not take forever to get to.

Here in North Texas, we love a weekend getaway that doesn’t take riding in the car all night. Whether we are traveling north, south, east, or west, road trips in Texas that take under three hours to get to are on the top of our weekend getaway lists. I may be talking for myself here, but if we only have a weekend, we want to go somewhere nearby.

There are many small towns to visit near DFW that have a lot to offer, and it gets us away from the hustle and bustle of city life that we could be on the road every weekend of the entire year and still not see it all – right? Have you seen our article – Fall Festivals in Texas for 2024? In that article, there are 25+ places for the whole family to visit. (Not necessarily in the North Texas area, but spread out all over Texas).

A Great Road Trip From DFW: Georgetown, Texas

A great road trip from DFW would not take forever to get to. That’s why we think a trip to Georgetown, TX, should be on your mind this fall!

Georgetown, Texas, known for its one-of-a-kind title—“The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas—” boasts historic charm and a gorgeous walkable town square. Georgetown is only 25 miles north of Austin and roughly less than a three-hour drive from Dallas/Fort Worth. With fabulous attractions in Georgetown, it’s the perfect destination for a quick getaway with vibrant dining, shopping, art, and history options, plus miles of parks and trails – something for the whole family to enjoy!

Georgetown, TX: The Perfect Road Trip From DFW This Fall

Many of us like to escape our hometown and go somewhere quiet that offers outdoor activities. Even though Austin is only a few exits after Georgetown, it’s still a beautiful town with excellent restaurants, nice parks, the beautiful San Gabriel rivers, and fewer crowds. But on the other hand, if you’re looking for some optional nightlife, Austin is only a hop, skip, and jump away.

Georgetown’s South Main Arts Festival

Whether in spring to see the red poppies growing wild everywhere and attend the Red Poppy Festival or in fall to visit Georgetown’s annual South Main Arts Festival. This festival is happening on Saturday, October 19, 2024. It’s an easy drive on I-35, and you can leave after work on a Friday and get there in time for a great dinner at one of the many fabulous restaurants in Georgetown.

The festival is located in the new South Main Arts District. Festival attendees will enjoy various activities throughout the day, shopping artist booths, viewing and voting on the community chalk art project. Plus live music, food trucks, and more.

Special art exhibits will include Entangled at the Georgetown Art Center and Cirque at Grace Chapel, curated by Stinger Studio. Headlining performer The Suffers will perform at 5 p.m. in the South Main Arts District Green. Food trucks, live music, dancers, interactive drumming, and printmaking will be available at the Georgetown Art Center.

More To Do In Georgetown, TX

If you’re looking for more to do in Georgetown, there’s always the Inner Space Caverns, which is a big hit for the kids, and San Gabriel Park, which is one of my favorites—it’s so colorful, and you can get your feet wet in the river and talk to the ducks!
