Take a trip to America’s largest downtown square for shopping, dining, and history!
Graham, Texas, is a small town where charm and nature combined with rich history make it the perfect getaway to relax & unwind and learn more about Texas history. Graham is located in northcentral Texas, a little over an hour’s drive from downtown Fort Worth. Things to do in Graham include visiting its unique historical sites and charming town square, fishing on the lakes, and exploring nature, all great reasons to reconnect to the outdoors and the past.
Graham might be your next hidden gem to discover, but I like to think you just haven’t made it there yet! My mom and I went on another mother-daughter road trip, and we found so much history about Texas that we never knew existed. We were in ahh. But what we loved the most about this town is how businesses help one another and how much it cares about the success of its neighboring stores. Not only do the locals help spread the love of their small town, but they also know a lot about the history of the land, and they are proud to say!
Disclosure: My mother and I were hosted by Visit Graham, TX, and at Oak Ranch Resort. All opinions are my own.

Oak Ranch Resort
For those visiting Graham for more than a day, the Oak Ranch Resort is a great option, especially if you’re bringing the family. The resort’s casitas can accompany small to large groups. Plus, it’s in the country, secluded from the rest, 15 minutes from town on 57 acres, where the kids can roam and parents can relax.
Expect peace, relaxation in the hot tub, and roasting s’mores by the fire pit—both are right outside your casita. Things To Do In Graham Include Shopping On Its Downtown Square
You’ll want to bring a good pair of walking shoes for Graham’s downtown square, approximately 50 acres of retail space—about a mile long. Don’t worry; there’s dining all around and a movie theater if you want to catch the latest show. There’s even a bookstore and a wine store that sells wines from France, specialty spirits, and Texas beers.
With much shopping on the square, many historic buildings house these shops and diners. Be sure to step back in time and get a selfie by the courthouse archway, the only thing left from the 1884 original courthouse. And while you’re there, visit the Old Post Museum.
Below are a few stores we visited and had lengthy talks with the owners.

Pratt’s Books
Since 1979, the Pratts have owned and operated this bookstore on the square. Known mainly for Texas History and history in general, it houses old and new books, out-of-print, hard-to-find, collectible, children’s, and more wonderful books. The building was built in 1890 and was a grocery store and a few other stores before the Pratts owned it. If the (original) walls could talk, they’d probably tell some pretty good stories from back when.
Pratt’s Books is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am-4 pm at 502 Oak Street. 940-549-5341.

Graham Wines
You won’t find just any ole bottle of wine here. Nor will you find the kind of liquor you can get at the grocery store. Graham Wines specializes in wines and liquor from around the world. Each bottle, no matter what it is, has to pass the owner’s expectations. Owners and Vintners Jason M. or Michael A. will be there on Saturdays for wine tasting. The store is open Wednesday through Saturday. 469-699-4639.

The Middleton Hotel
Opt for the Middleton Hotel, a boutique shipping container hotel with everything you need for a night or two on the square. It’s cozy enough for two people in love, and pets are welcome at no extra cost.
I love the Middleton Hotel’s concept, especially the modern decor and the art on the wall. Each room features one artist’s art and offers a QR code to learn more about each piece. The outdoor space is welcoming and shared with the Middle Sister—a convenient place for coffee and cocktails.

Middle Sister
This is an excellent place on the square for drinks at the bar, or you can cozy up on the couch or grab a seat at one of the tables. There is also an event space in the back for groups and get-togethers. They also have a coffee hut on the patio for those early morning urges for a latte. Check out Middle Sister for that perfect cup of joe Tuesday through Saturday.
A friend from Breckenridge visited us, and we enjoyed wine and bites, compliments of the Middle Sister. It was nice to see her after months of only texting.

He is an acclaimed author-illustrator and will present his journey into the amazing world of Picture Books—a ticketed event. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or online.

Young County Museum
If you’re interested in Young County’s history, the Young County Museum of History & Culture is the place to visit. It’s in Graham on Echo Street and is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and some Saturdays. Let Shannon know I sent you.
Expect to see artifacts, antiques, and collectibles representative of Young Country’s earliest recorded history. It was amazing to see original artifacts, like the above chuckwagon, where they actually cooked dinners.

Fort Belknap
Step back in time to this restored U.S. Army fort from the mid-1800s. Fort Belknap is located 11 miles northwest of Graham on FM 61.
It was the starting point for the Goodnight-Loving Trail cattle trail. It’s also a preference for the book and TV mini-series Lonesome Dove.
The museum at Fort Belknap is inside what once was the commissary building. It’s free, and there is someone there with knowledge about everything that went on there – old days and present days (9-5 pm on-Sat; closed for lunch).
