February promises mild weather, romance, festivals, rodeos, and Mardi Gras!

For mild weather, outdoor activities, family-friendly festivals, Texas rodeos, and Mardi Gras, your February visit will not be boring—pack layers and sunscreen. Here are fun things to do in Texas in February.

February in Texas brings cooler and drier weather than other months, but conditions can still vary significantly across our large state – yes, it can snow in Texas!

Texas’s southern, southeastern, and coastal regions tend to be warmer in February with mild humidity, while northern and western areas are slightly colder. If you like the chance of snow, visit the Texas Panhandle (Amarillo) – you might see some white on the ground in February.

Things To Do In Texas In February

Average Temperatures in Major Texas Cities

Texas is a large state with diverse climates, but you can expect mild, pleasant weather overall if you’re visiting in February. Here are the average temperatures in some of the major cities:

Dallas/Fort Worth Area: High temperatures range from the upper 50s to low 60s during the day, with overnight lows in the 40s. The Dallas/Fort Worth area has an average high of 61°F in February.

Austin: Days are mild in Austin during February, with average highs around 63°F. Low temperatures drop to the mid-40s at night.

Houston: February is still chilly, but the city sees warmer weather than much of the state. Highs range from the 60s to the low 70s, while lows stay above 50°F on average.

San Antonio: In February, the weather resembles Austin’s, with daily high temperatures in the low to mid-60s. Overnight lows fall into the 40s.

No matter which part of Texas you’re visiting, pack various clothing for daytime exploring and chilly evenings—think layers.
