things to do at Horseshoe bay resort

Horseshoe Bay Resort offers tons of activities for its guests, and we’ve got the scoop.

Horseshoe Bay Resort is located on Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country near Marble Falls. It’s a world of its own, and you’ll never want to leave. If you’ve ever wanted to take your family here, we’ve got the details on the things to do at Horseshoe Bay Resort, along with our review of the property.

Summers in Texas should be spent near a body of water. No matter the type of water, whether it’s a lake or a pool, you have the best of both when it comes to swimming, jumping, floating, and whatever else you want to do in the water. Think Kayaking, fishing, and boating. Horseshoe Bay Resort delivers!

Disclosure: Horseshoe Bay Resort hosted me and a friend at its resort, including all meals and activities. All opinions are my own.

Things To Do At Horseshoe Bay Resort

Just past Marble Falls heading south on Hwy 281, you’ll find this quaint resort nestled on Lake LBJ. If you didn’t know it was there, you would miss it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven through Marble Falls, unaware of this resort hidden on the west side of the highway. It’s a hidden gem for sure, though it’s been around for ages.

Horseshoe Bay Resort is enormous, and some areas are not close to the hotel. Which means you can drive your car or use resort transportation to various places on the resort. We used the hotel’s transportation twice without any trouble. They were there to take us places and there to bring us back.

What I Am Loving

Besides the Cowbory Cornbread and the mouth-watering crispy potatoes (I’ve already tried to duplicate these at home) served at J’s, we both loved our time on Lake LBJ while one of the guys took us on a pontoon boat. He showed us homes of the rich and famous and told a few stories about each.

For me, riding in the boat brought back great memories of my childhood and adulthood at our family lakehouse just southeast of Dallas. I also liked playing pickleball with Amanda. We are both left-handed, and our trainer was right. It’s just funny when two left-handers are together!

Family Activities at Horseshoe Bay Resort

At Horseshoe Bay Resort, you can be as active as you want. There are plenty of outdoor sports to do.

  • Pickleball
  • Tennis
  • Racquetball
  • Putt-Putt
  • Dive-in Movies – watch family-friendly movies while floating in the water.
  • Waterfront floating pool – Day beds available to rent
  • Marina
  • Family Fun Zone – Arcade
  • Pontoon Charter – enjoy a private chartered cruise on Lake LBJ
  • Complimentary s’mores at the firepits on the Whitewater patio
  • and more

On-site Restaurants At Horseshoe Bay Resort

When you’re here, you are among some excellent restaurants serving up family favorites and healthy options. The three restaurants we had the privilege of dining at are J’s Restaurant & Bar, located inside the Hotel Tower; Whitewater 360 Sports Club is steps away, and Waterfront Bar & Grill is near the floating pool. There is also a market inside the Tower that offers coffee, sundries, and other incidentals.

J’s Restaurant & Bar

Start your day with a hearty breakfast in a casual setting. Open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Reservations can be made for dinner.

We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at J’s. Everything was delicious, especially the Cowboy Cornbread.

Waterfront Bar & Grill

Go poolside for lunch at the waterfront floating pool and let the servers cater to you. We enjoyed a covered pool daybed, a fruit tray, and a lovely lunch after our pontoon ride. It was a nice day.

This restaurant offers Brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.

Whitewater 360 Sports Club

The Whitewater 360 Sports Club is a sports-themed restaurant featuring 16 large-screen TVs throughout the bar area. Enjoy hand-crafted cocktails, a great selection of beers, pizza, wings, salad, and all the favs—no reservations accepted here.

What Type Of Travelers Will You Find Here?

Horseshoe Bay Resort is for everyone. We saw many families with small children and teens. We also saw grandparents with their grandkids. And of course, we were there for a girls’ getaway.

Monday and Tuesday seem to be the best days to go. On Wednesday, as we were leaving, the line to check in was almost out the door. However, it was moving quickly, and I assume guests were checking in early.

Things to do Near Horseshoe Bay Resort?

We’re confident you’ll stay busy at the resort, as we did. However, if you’d like to explore more of the area, there are various things to enjoy outside of the resort in Marble Falls.

  • Downtown Marble Falls is soaring with shops, boutiques, and a new winery.
  • Besides Lake LBJ, the Highland Lakes Region of the Texas Hill Country offers several other lakes in the area, including Lake Marble Falls, Inks Lake, and Lake Buchanan, among others.
  • If wine tasting is on your agenda, you’re in the best spot. Between Marble Falls and Fredericksburg alone, there are at least 50 wineries.
  • Enchanted Rock State Park is located on the other side of Fredericksburg.
  • There’s Longhorn Caverns State Park in Burnet
  • Sweet Berry Farm off Hwy 1431 is great for the whole family
  • Balcones Canyonland National Wildlife Refuge is on the other side of Hwy 1431

Is Anything Else Worth Mentioning?

The Horseshoe Bay Resort offers meeting spaces, premier events, a wedding venue, a yacht club, memberships, and more.

We suggest spending a long weekend here if not a full-blown vacation. You’ll want to see and do it all.
