If you don’t mind crowds, you’ll want to visit these top popular places in Texas.

According to a recent trend I read, these are the most popular places in Texas to visit for 2025. What comes with being one of the fabulous places to visit in Texas is also crowds. If you’re okay with that, let’s review these top Texas hot spots and make plans to visit now or in early fall, when the weather is just right!

Whether you are headed to the river, the beach, or a museum, it’s clear that Texas tourism is booming, and so are the people coming to visit. Plan to arrive early, and if you’re looking for something different, it might be time to explore some hidden gems or places you’ve never been before.

7 Top Texas Hot Spots You Need To Know About!

Small cities in Texas are a vibrant tapestry of history, nature, and culture, woven across deserts, beaches, hill country, and bustling cities. Here is a sample of what makes the Lone Star State a standout.

Landa Park on the Comal River in New Braunfels

1. Comal River, New Braunfels

Floating on the Comal River on a tube is a favorite summer sport among families, couples, and those who like the cold waters of a river. It sure makes a great activity on a hot sunny day. It takes the #2 spot of the Texas hot spots on this list. I saved the number one until last.

At any rate, the Comal River is dubbed the “longest shortest river in the world,” which offers impeccable scenic floats right through town. Summer months are the busiest, and if you’ve seen lily pads floating on top of the water, that’ll be you and hundreds more tubers enjoying the summer water. If crowds aren’t your thing, consider visiting in September, after the Labor Day festivities have passed.

2. Port Aransas Beach

Port Aransas Beach is a coastal gem with a laid-back vibe and a splash of adventure. No wonder it’s so popular. It’s got a soft, sandy shoreline that stretches over 6 miles—perfect for long walks, sunbathing, or building sandcastles. You won’t believe how gorgeous its blue-green waters are, offering a peaceful backdrop for soaking up the Gulf breeze. The busy Mustang Island State Park nearby offers camping, hiking, and birdwatching in a serene setting.

For some fun on the beach, cart rentals are available. Dolphin-watching tours, pirate cruises, and kayak adventures can add a splash of excitement for your entire group.

Also, don’t forget about the fishing opportunities along the jetty and pier year-round.

3. Barton Springs Pool in Austin

Barton Springs Pool is a three-acre spring-fed swimming pool situated in the heart of Zilker Park. It’s Austin’s most iconic natural treasures. It’s also very popular and crowded. Try going on the off days – if there’s such a thing. I do know that the water is always 68-70 degrees year-round.

Address: 2131 William Barton Dr, Austin, TX 78746. Admission charge.

FYI: No alcohol, smoking, or pets are allowed at the pool.

4. Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas

After all these years, the Sixth Floor Museum remains one of the most popular destinations in the state of Texas.

John F. Kennedy’s time in office left an indelible mark on the nation, culminating in a moment that forever linked Dallas to history. At the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, his life and leadership come into focus through thought-provoking exhibits that explore both his presidency and the tragic events surrounding his assassination. A visit here offers not just a window into JFK’s personal and political journey, but a powerful reflection on a pivotal chapter in American history.

There are numerous guided tours available, allowing visitors to explore the museum and learn more about John F. Kennedy and Lee Harvey Oswald. I’ve given a link to all the guided tours via my affiliate link – Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

5. The Alamo

The Alamo will always be on the top Texas hot spots list. Renovations are underway at the Alamo, but it remains open for tours. It says this transformation may take years to complete.

Yes, you can visit the Alamo, but why not group a few more excursions together and make a day of it? Below is my affiliate link to this amazing group of attractions.

6. San Antonio River Walk

One place I don’t mind going back to time and time again is the San Antonio Riverwalk. I love dining by the river, riding that boat, and listening to the captain tell funny stories.

Meanders through the city’s vibrant core, weaving a living tapestry of history, rich cultural, and serene natural scenery. It’s more than a scenic stroll—it’s an immersive experience that captures the essence of the city’s soul, one shaded pathway and arched bridge at a time.

Go there on your own or choose from several guided tours that tell the story of San Antonio’s history, including the tale of San Antonio’s haunted hotel. Consider adding a boat tour to complete your stay. Here is my affiliate link to a few guided tours on the Riverwalk.

7. Schlitterbahn Waterpark, New Braunfels

Of all the places in Texas, Schlitterbahn Waterpark is the top destination for families to visit. It’s definitely a summer staple, and now that the zip line course is there, it’s even more favorable.

Famous for its winding lazy rivers and heart-racing thrill rides, the park draws crowds of families and tourists every peak season. However, with the surge of visitors seeking relief from the heat, guests often face lengthy lines and relentless sun exposure before the fun begins, so be warned.
