Floating on the Comal River on a tube is a favorite summer sport among families, couples, and those who like the cold waters of a river. It sure makes a great activity on a hot sunny day. It takes the #2 spot of the Texas hot spots on this list. I saved the number one until last.
At any rate, the Comal River is dubbed the “longest shortest river in the world,” which offers impeccable scenic floats right through town. Summer months are the busiest, and if you’ve seen lily pads floating on top of the water, that’ll be you and hundreds more tubers enjoying the summer water. If crowds aren’t your thing, consider visiting in September, after the Labor Day festivities have passed.
2. Port Aransas Beach
Port Aransas Beach is a coastal gem with a laid-back vibe and a splash of adventure. No wonder it’s so popular. It’s got a soft, sandy shoreline that stretches over 6 miles—perfect for long walks, sunbathing, or building sandcastles. You won’t believe how gorgeous its blue-green waters are, offering a peaceful backdrop for soaking up the Gulf breeze. The busy Mustang Island State Park nearby offers camping, hiking, and birdwatching in a serene setting.
For some fun on the beach, cart rentals are available. Dolphin-watching tours, pirate cruises, and kayak adventures can add a splash of excitement for your entire group.
