Golf Courses In The Texas Hill Country

From challenging layouts to stunning landscapes, these top golf courses in the Texas Hill Country have something to offer golf enthusiasts of all levels.

Nestled in Central Texas’ scenic hill country are several remarkable golf courses that are indeed a golfer’s paradise. New and experienced golfers looking to enhance their game will experience the best golf courses in the Texas Hill Country.

My golfing adventures started a few years ago when I was searching for a women’s social group where I could learn to play golf and network with other women professionally on and off the golf course. I joined an organization called Women on Course and haven’t looked back. Golf has allowed me to make new friends and enjoy time with my children in a hobby we enjoy.

My experience has been with beginner courses with fewer hazards and shorter slopes; some courses listed here have that. There are also more challenging courses listed so that we can offer up some challenging holes for intermediate or more advanced players in their golf game. Either way, some options exist in the Texas Hill Country if you travel and want to meet on the green.

The Top Texas Hill Country Golf Courses

Suppose you are looking for golf course communities to play a round of golf near you or for a golf resort weekend getaway. If so, each golf course listed here offers a unique experience with breathtaking views the hill country provides and well-designed holes that test one’s skills or a mix of difficulty levels to cater to different players.

These are the top golf destinations in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa – Austin

The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, TX, is a world-class resort on 4,000 acres in the Texas Hill Country. The resort has four golf courses: Tom Fazio Canyon, Fazio Foothills, Coore Crenshaw, and Palmer Lakeside, and they are all absolutely gorgeous but challenging.

The Palmer Lakeside course was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer, with many par 3s on the back nine, and is very much playable for beginners and advanced players. This course is the weaker of the four and is a 40 min drive further from the other courses. That doesn’t make it a waste of time to travel there, but all the courses at this resort get booked fast, so there might be some tee time availability at the last minute on this course.

Southwest by Golf Magazine recognized the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa as one of the best golf resorts in the Southwest and was designed by legends in the golf world. It is why the Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa is one of the most sought-after golf destinations.

The golf courses at Barton Creek Resort and Spa are consistently ranked among the best in Texas and offer stunning views of the hill country. It also doesn’t hurt that this 4-star resort boasts one of the best spas with their 13,000 square foot Mokara Spa – a must-visit if you have time for some relaxation.

Open Daily from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

Course play is exclusively for Barton Creek Country Club members and Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa registered guests.

Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort – Boerne

This scenic and challenging resort course caters to intermediate and advanced golfers. Set amidst rolling hills that feature strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, and tree-lined fairways, the course is designed to challenge advanced players, including several holes with hidden pins. This is a challenging par 72 course with a 130 slope rating, but there are opportunities for beginner golfers to get some shots in.

Surrounded by hills, there are plenty of lakes and trees and many water hazards on about half of the holes. You need to have a decent amount of accuracy on your shots but lots of chances to hit good shots in close. I have played this course, and in the summer, I noticed some dry spots on the greens, but they are trying to fix that. This golf course is one of the more affordable resort golf courses in the area for non-members.

Whether you are playing a round of golf, exploring Boerne’s Main Street, or relaxing by one of the resort’s fire pits, there are many things to do at this resort.

Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort

Open Daily (Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Resort Guests Only) from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.

Stay and Play packages start at $492.

Berry Creek Country Club – Georgetown

This country club is a premier golf destination in the heart of Georgetown. Its meticulously maintained course boasts a challenging yet enjoyable layout, with picturesque water features and tree-lined fairways. Players of all skill levels will appreciate the variety of holes and the club’s commitment to providing a top-notch experience.

This golf course is one of my favorites to play as it has a fairly short range between tees of 5,000 to 6600 yards, making it a great starter course for beginners. This course has an array of challenging holes, so it is definitely not easy. On the day I went, we saw a family of deer running down the length of the course, not an uncommon sight for golf courses in the hill country.

Berry Creek Country Club
30500 Berry Creek Dr, Georgetown, TX

Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:00 am – 9:00 pm., Sundays are from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm., and it is closed on Mondays (Mondays are for member play only).

The Berry Creek Country Club golf course is open to members and is a great golf course for the public. Green fees are $45.00 on weekdays to $55.00 on weekends and holidays.

Horseshoe Bay Resort – Marble Falls

The resort, located off Lake LBJ near Marble Falls, has four golf courses designed by a renowned golf architect. It’s the perfect place for active adults to get their game on.

The Ram Rock course, known as “The Challenger,” is the most advanced, boasting dramatic elevation changes in its demanding layout, creating an actual test for the experienced golfer. It is also known for its challenging par-3 holes and unique rock formations.

Slick Rock is the original course from 1972, and it includes three sets of tees playing many yards —a great starter course for beginners before taking on the more challenging Ram Rock or Apple Rock. It’s also not a pushover either, as there are still a lot of natural features and forgiving fairways.

Horseshoe Bay Resort
200 Hi Circle North, Horseshoe Bay, TX
(877) 611-0112

Open Daily (Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Resort Guests Only) from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.

Play for this course is reserved for club members and hotel guests. Golf and Hotel packages start at $512.

Hidden Falls Golf Club – Marble Falls

Situated just outside of Marble Falls in Meadowlakes, Hidden Falls Golf Club offers a tranquil escape for golf enthusiasts. This 18-hole championship course, designed by Leon Howard, winds through the Texas Hill Country, providing breathtaking views and challenging shots. The course’s strategic bunkers, undulating greens, and elevation changes make it a must-play for any golfer visiting the area.

With four (4) sets of tees, any level of golfer can enjoy the play. The facilities include a full-service pro shop, driving range, chipping, pitching area, putting green, cart rental, bar, and restaurant.

This used to be a private golf course that is now a municipal course owned by the City of Meadowlakes. It’s an older course, making it a bit shorter than newer courses, but it is a great value. You can play pretty fast through this course since the front 9 has only one water hole and no bunkers, versus the back 9, which has five water holes, many more blind spots, and more features. Overall I enjoyed playing this course, and it is very affordable.

Hidden Falls Golf Club
220 Meadowlakes Drive, Meadowlakes, TX
(830)-693-3300

Open Tuesdays – Sundays from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm. Closed on Mondays.

Greens fees start at $46 on weekdays and $55 on weekends.

The Bandit Golf Club – New Braunfels

This public golf course is part of the Long Creek at the Bandit master-planned community off the shores of Lake McQueeney. The course is designed with wide fairways and forgiving greens, making it an excellent course for those new to golfing—only a 30-minute drive from downtown San Antonio.

The Bandit Golf Club has a 12,000 sq ft practice green and a golf training academy that provides private lessons.

If your travels take you to New Braunfels and you are looking for a great golf outing or want to add it to your existing New Braunfels and Hill Country vacation, the Bandit Golf Club should be a top destination.

The Bandit Golf Club
6019 FM 725, New Braunfels, TX 78130
(830) 609-4665

Open Daily from 6:30 am to dusk

Public Tee Times begin around Noon daily.

This public course is a very affordable option. Twilight rates range from $33+ on weekdays and $38+ on weekends. Regular rates range from $54 on weekdays to $92 on weekends. Stay and play packages are available via vacation rentals at The Lodges at the Bandit Golf Club.

TPC San Antonio

The TPC San Antonio includes the Canyons and the Oaks Courses. TPC San Antonio is part of the Tournament Players Club network, a chain of public and private golf courses operated by the PGA Tour.

The Oaks Course is most famous for hosting the annual Valero Texas Open, one of the oldest PGA tour tournaments in the country. The courses operated by TPC San Antonio are part of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa. Renowned golf architects Pete Dye and Greg Norman designed the two 18-hole championship golf courses. This course is beautiful and well-maintained, but it is also a very long course. Many that have played this course say it is very challenging.

Another highlight is the abundance of wildlife on or near the course, from deer to turkeys.

TPC San Antonio
23808 Resort Parkway, San Antonio, TX
(210) 491-5800

Open Daily from 6:30 am – 7:00 pm.

There are many options if you are looking for the best golf courses in the Texas Hill Country. It’s an ideal destination for golf enthusiasts and beginners, with mild winters and hot summers.
