family resort in Canton, TX.

If you’re headed to First Monday Trade Days In Canton, check out this family resort near the grounds.

No matter the way you and your family like to camp, whether it’s in an RV, a tent, glamping or how about a covered wagon, it’s mememorial times spent together. Well, for any reason you’re near Canton, perhaps heading to First Monday Trade Days or just wanting to get away for the weekend, there’s a neat family resort in Canton, TX, to explore. Your family will love it. I’ve been there twice.

This resort in mention is about an 1-hour drive east of Dallas off I-20, and is the perfect weekend getaway for sunshine, fun, and family. They offer cabins, conestago wagons, tiny houses, a treehouse or two by now, and lots of room for RV’s.

The resort is kid-friendly and pet-friendly. Some cabins don’t allow pets though.

I mentioned above that we’ve been twice. The first time, we spent the weekend in one of their Conestoga Wagons (covered wagon). Have you ever heard of Conestoga Wagons, or better yet, stayed overnight in one? These are not the old-timey ones, but new-covered wagons circulating on campgrounds for luxury glamping purposes. This was our first Conestoga wagon camping experience and we enjoyed it.

The second time we went, we stayed in their first glamping treehouse. I’m sure they have more now. If you can make it up the stairs, you’re good to go. There is a restroom up there – thank goodness!

Take a look at our visits to Silver Spur Resort in Canton, TX.

Family Resort In Canton, TX

I do wish I took more photos of this place. It’s wide open, safe for the kids to run around, and many things to do outdoors. It’s the perfect place to keep the kids off electronics and outside – no matter the time of year.

Glamping Treehouse At Silver Spur Resort

This particular treehouse had a small kitchenette, queen bed, bunkbeds, kitchen table, bathroom with shorwer. And the underneath! That’s the best part. That photo is above. We enjoyed our time under the treehouse. It had a cool game that Brody and I played. It was like there was a string and you had to swing it and try to hook the end to the hook on the wall. There was a fan or two, a grill, and plenty places to sit. The firepit was not underneath, but beside it in an open field. This open field or grass area would make a great spot for a family reunion of sort.

Roughing It In Style In A Conestoga Wagon

Inside the Conestoga Wagons are one king bed, 1 set of bunk beds that sleeps four, and a cute table with two chairs. The Conestoga Wagon we slept in had two sets of bunk beds and not a table, but sleeps six. In all wagons, there are small tables on both sides of the king bed. A little snug but doable, but you’re not hanging out in them …you spend most of your time outdoors — right?

Restrooms are located steps away from the wagons and are a community-type restroom with a shower just for the folks staying in the wagons. There is a code to get in. The restrooms are nice and clean, and well kept up each day.

ABove is the Conestoga Wagon at night. Oh, and by the way, we had some terrible weather the first night we were there, and it did not bother us at all in the wagon. We thought it might, and the resort was so nice to offer us a cabin if we wanted it, but we stood it out, and everything turned out okay.

Things To Do At Silver Spur Resort

One of Brody’s favorite things to do at the resort is fishing.

  • horseshoes
  • catch and release fishing from the pond
  • swimming in the pool
  • rent a pedal boat
  • kid’s playground
  • outdoor activities
  • Escape Room
  • walking around the pond and the property (no swimming allowed in pond)

The Q & Brew BBQ Restaurant

The Q & Brew is Silver Spur Resort’s onsite restaurant. Move over chips and salsa – it’s beans and cornbread with honey served before your dinner here! They offer flight of beers, craft beer, and wine. I beleive now there is live music there, too. The food is really good, and the barbecue is what I call “pull apart” good! But those beans and cornbread can fill you up, so don’t eat too much. And leave room for desert. The restaurant is open to the public.

A Chuck Wagon Experience

There are three ways to eat at Silver Spur Resort. One is to cook out yourself using your own private grill. The other is to enjoy a nice homemade meal in their restaurant, The Q & Brew. The third is to buy tickets to a Chuckwagon Experience. Which would you prefer? Well, we did two out of the three. Cooking ourselves was not part of our experience this time, but I would be into it the next time! Be sure to ask if they still offer the cookout experience.

What is a Chuckwagon Experience, you ask?

At a Chuckwagon Experience, you’ll experience hands-on cooking like in the old west days – outdoors and over an open fire. You’ll eat around a campfire, listen to music, and be served fantastic food, including cowboy beans cooked in a cast-iron pot over a fire pit and the best cobbler I’ve ever tasted cooked in a Dutch oven. It’s worth the experience and fun for the whole family.

I do hope you check out this fantasitc family resort in Canton, TX.
