Tick. Tock.
That is the sound of the Back-to-School clock. Before you get lost in the world of spiral notebooks and new tennis shoes, for many there is still time to take one last splash of the summer. Below we have shared a roundup of some of our favorite spots, perfect for those quick getaways.
Gonzales
Full of history, Gonzales offers educational opportunities year-round. With a true town square, great eats, and lots of shops, it offers fun for everyone. This central Texas town can be reached within a few hours from all the large metropolitan centers making it a great pick for families across the state.
New Braunfels
Another central Texas destination welcomes with a “guten tag”. New Braunfels offers German culture and cuisine alongside Uber water fun with riverside cabins and of course, the world famous Schlitterbahn Waterpark.
Bastrop
Another great family destination to set you afloat is Bastrop. Southeast of Austin, it hosts both Lake Bastrop and terrific access to the Colorado river. It is also home to the Lost Pines and a large state park offering outdoor activities for all ages.
Columbus
East of San Antonio on I-10 sits Columbus. This Texas treasure is often overlooked by the interstate traffic but worth a stop for unique destinations like the Santa Claus museum.
San Angelo
A trip further west could find you along Route 66 in San Angelo. Home to bison and a former bordello (yes, you read that right), there is fun to be had day or night.
Make a Splash in East Texas
Near Houston, there are multiple coastal and bay destinations including Brazosoport, Baytown, and Pearland.
And of course, just 45 minutes south of the city is a jewel of history and coastal living – Galveston Island.
McKinney
And if you need a break from Back-to-School mania, consider a grownups only visit to McKinney. Our bloggers found it the perfect spot for a Girls Weekend.
However you choose to run out the clock, we at Texas Travel Talk wish you a wonderful finish to the summer of 2019.
