Things To Do In Conroe, Texas

Conroe is not short on things to do, especially outdoors. You can take on as many outdoor activities as you’d like, such as birding, hiking, geocaching, or enjoying the water at Lake Conroe. You can also find a spot and stay relaxed the entire time you’re there. Plus, live music at various venues, breweries downtown, and wineries are also great things to do. Fuse lake life, food, and fun, and Conroe, Texas, becomes the perfect destination to spend a vacation with singles, couples, and the whole family.

Be sure to stop by the visitor center to pick up brochures and meet the friendly staff who can help with your itinerary.

Margaritaville Lake Resort

Relax At Margaritaville Lake Resort

No matter the time of year, a relaxing lakeside is for sure at Margaritaville Lake Resort. The resort offers golf, a healing spa, a couple of restaurants to choose from, and fun on the lake. You don’t need to go anywhere else unless you want to. Almost everything at the resort is open to the public. However, if you’re not a guest, you’ll want to get information on purchasing a Paradise Pass Day pass to enjoy the water park, mini golf, arcade, tennis, and more fun.

LandShark Bar And Grill Restaurant

LandShark Bar & Grill is located at the Golf Club at the resort. The restaurant has a nice inside seating area, but if the weather is nice, you may want to opt for outside seating where the view of the lake is marvelous. The blackened Mahi fish tacos I had were fabulous, and my server recommended I have a margarita with my meal, which I did! I’m not sure what I enjoyed more, the food, the drink or the view!

License To Chill Restaurant

Whenever I travel solo, I like to eat at the bar. I enjoyed a casual salmon and veggie dinner and got lots of information about Conroe from the bartender. It seems she is from the area and knows a lot. You can’t beat knowledge from a local.

St. Somewhere Spa

St. Somewhere Spa is a full-service spa located a pleasant walk from the hotel. After playing a round of golf, a great scenario could be to treat yourself to some self-care. I had no regrets about signing up for that deep tissue massage – it was wonderful, and I left there feeling fantastic.

Things To Do At Lake Conroe

Lake Conroe is a recreational lake with easy access to water, allowing visitors to enjoy it year-round. A variety of water sports, including kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, and boat rentals, are available on the lake. Picnic tables, fire pits, fishing piers, and a swimming area are also available.

Want to rent a boat? You can do that at Einstein’s Ship Store|Boat Rentals or any other outfitter that offers boat rental services. Boating is a big deal on this lake – whether boats are for fishing or water sports, it’s an outdoor activity that gets you out on the lake. Renting a tour guide is also an option. I spent several hours on the water with Captain Mary from Einstein’s. The weather was excellent, and the view was even better. Einstein’s is located in the Margaritaville Resort and is open to the public. Other boat and watercraft options to rent include runabouts, lagoon cruises, party barges, and this cutest yellow duck pedal boat.

Shop Downtown Conroe

Downtown Conroe is full of character and history, and the shopping is good, too. I found a red hat, some home decor, and a colorful scarf at the cutest boutique in town. Plus, I met a friend at the Main Street Market boutique. As you walk around, check out the 13 art benches that colorfully show Conroe’s history.

Fass Brewing

If you like German beer and are still downtown, stopping at Fass Brewing is an excellent choice. I was able to taste beers I never thought existed. If coffee beer or chocolate beer is of interest to you, stop by to try it here. Ask the bartender how they make it – it’s pretty interesting. There are other breweries in Conroe to check out, too.

Veterans Memorial Park

The Veterans Memorial Park is a beautiful dedication to the men and women who served in the war. It’s free to park and walk around. You’re close if you see the flags flying above from I-45 on the east side. It could very well be a great history lesson for the kids. However, I learned a few things from the signs and statues.

Sam Houston National Park

One of the best things I happened upon while in Conroe was Sam Houston National Park; however, it was on my way home. Thank goodness I elected to take the backroads, as the directions led me through this beautiful national park. I didn’t have time to stop as I was on a schedule, but stopping will be mandatory next time to see more. As a native Texan, it’s somewhat embarrassing that I have never been there.

I realize now that the national forests in Texas are something to gawk over, and Sam Houston National Park is one of them. Beautiful natural scenery and many excellent trails for a day hike are abundant, so if you go, plan on spending an entire day. If nothing else, a drive will be all you need (like me) to want to know what lies behind those tall, gorgeous trees. My motto now is to “always take the backroads.” The drive was much better than going on I-45 any day!
