Summertime brings many pick-your-own berry farms near you, and many Texas strawberry farms begin.
There are many pick-your-own berry farms in Texas! I had no idea until I started researching for this article—WOW! I broke down my list into sections of Texas. So, pick the closest location and choose which farms you want to visit. Additionally, there are sunflower fields in Texas that are available for picking.
But first, I must say that …believe it or not, it’s easy to grow blackberry bushes in your backyard. We dug a hole by the back fence, added some soil, planted the blackberry bush, covered it, and the bush took off and started growing. That was five years ago. That blackberry bush returns yearly at the end of May, and we have more berries than we can eat.
Pick Your Own Berry Farms Tips & Rules
While researching berry farms in Texas, I came across these tips and rules on various websites, so I thought it would be wise to share them here.
- The weather and rain predict the crops
- Call before you go
- Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes
- All farms have rules, and they want you to read them and abide by them
- Most farms do not allow pets
- Picking season varies depending on where in Texas
- Some, if not most, berry farms do not accept credit cards of any kind – cash only.
FYI – Blackberry season is April through July. They are more tart than other berries and can be used in jams, wines, and desserts. If you like eating the pits or seeds in them, you’ll love these berries. Blackberries can grow anywhere in Texas.
Peach season is April through August. Did you know the Texas Legislature designated peach cobbler the State Cobbler in 2013? That’s new to me! According to a recent article I found, when selecting the right peach, experts recommend using your sense of smell. Peaches should smell as good as they taste. No scent means little flavor.

If you don’t have any berry bushes in your backyard, check out this list and pick some! It’s a fun outdoor activity for the family.

Dallas-Fort Worth Berry Farms
• Blase Family Farm – Rockwall
Blueberries
End of May-July
It may be early, so check before you go. No pets are allowed at this farm. Blase Family Farm is a pick-your-own blueberry farm in the summer and a pumpkin patch in the fall.
• Blueberry Hill Farms – Edom
Blueberries
Late May to July
About 75 miles east of Dallas, you’ll find Blueberry Hill Farms. It’s open from late May to the end of July, but check back in mid-May. Always check before you go. They also have a fabulous country store filled with blueberry syrup, jams, and other products made from their blueberries.
If you plan to walk around the small town of Edom, avoid Mondays – the city is closed. But go when you can see the town’s adorable and unique stores, all within walking distance of each other.
A winery is now only 5 miles from the farm called Green Goat Winery. They are open on Friday and Saturday.
Additionally, my mom and I purchased several plants for $1 and $2 to add to our gardens. Afterward, we enjoyed ice cream and pie. Blueberry Hill Farms
Pro Tip: It was hot, so bring a hat for comfort and apply sunscreen liberally.
• Demases Farm – Boyd

Pick your own strawberries at Demases Farm. Keep up with this farm on Facebook. According to their Facebook page, their farm stand is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They accept cash, debit, and credit cards. I believe this farm is open daily for other produce. No pets allowed.
• Echo Springs Blueberry Farm – Brownsboro

End of May through July
A large blueberry farm with blackberry picking available as well. They sell frozen blueberries later in the year, as well as jams and jellies, in their gift shop. Echo Springs Blueberry Farm has picnic tables and restrooms. No pets.
• Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm – Pilot Point

• U-Pick Blackberries – Paradise, TX – Closed for Good
• WOW U-Pick Farms – Krum
Veggies and berries
In the middle of March
This small country farm in Krum (west of Denton) opens up for picking vegetables and berries. WOW-U-Pick Farm is open through October ON SATURDAYS at 9 am. Available Labor Day weekend for picking basil, bell peppers, mint, goji berries, parsley, spinach, pear, butternut squash, and jalapeno. Call first.
• Pick-Your-Own-Strawberries Near Justin & Ponder

May/June
A farm between Justin and Ponder, TX, off Eakin Cemetery Rd to the west (near me -yay!), where you can pick strawberries. They hope to have their honey ready to sell in the store. This place is called Goober Bubs. The weather will predict when they will be open to the public. Open on Saturdays only.
• Sunset Trail Blackberry Farm – McKinney

East Texas Pick Your Own Berry Farms
There are several Blueberry Farms in East Texas.
• Alford Family Farm – Emory
Their website says they are open! Open Tuesday through Saturday for berry and vegetable picking—admission fee applies.
Alford Family Farm features acres and acres of blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry picking in spring and grapes in August.
• Blueberry Ridge Farm – Mineola
Blueberries ($15/gallon)
Late June
This is an organic blueberry farm, Wednesday through Saturday for summer hours.
Just outside Mineola is this Organic you-pick farm and pick-your-own blueberry farm, Blueberry Ridge Farm. Pumpkins typically appear after spring, so plan to return in October.
If you have all day, visiting downtown Mineola is a must. It’s such a darling downtown with lots of shopping at unique stores.
• Lake Creek Blueberry Farm – Montalba (Palestine, TX)

Open 7 am to 3 pm Thursday – Monday
They will offer pre-picked blueberries or sale and u-pick-blueberries. Stay tuned for information on their FB page, Lake Creek Blueberry Farm.
• Texas Blueberry Festival
Second Saturday in June – Free
Annual Texas Blueberry Festival in Nacogdoches. It’s always the second weekend in June.

Houston Pick Your Own Berry Farms
• Atkinson Farms

Check their FB page for hours of operation before you go.
Spring, TX, the Atkinson Farms, a strawberry farm and one of the good blackberry picking farms I’ve come across, is open year-round.
Pick your own strawberries in season. Also, make sure you eat all your fruits in season – they are better for you this way.
• Froberg’s Farm – Alvin, TX
Jan-May for Strawberries
Summer for Blackberries
Their bakery and store are open year-round. Depending on the weather, you can pick strawberries before May and blackberries after May. Call before you go or check the website for updates. For homemade canned goods and pies, fresh produce, nuts, and candy, head to Frogberg’s Farm.
• Family Farm – Plantersville, TX
Strawberries and Blackberries
The farm opens on March 1st, but please call ahead to confirm that what you want to pick is in season. They have more than just fruit – all kinds of vegetables for picking. I love that their strawberries are pesticide and chemical-free.

• Neal’s Berry Farm – Waller, TX
Blackberries, veggies, and flowers
May-August
In Waller, TX, Neal’s Berry Farm guarantees nice-sized blackberries. Zinnias, sunflowers, and vegetables are also available for picking.

Texas Hill Country Berry Picking
• Sweet Berry Farm – Marble Falls
Tulips first, then strawberries, followed by sunflowers and zinnia flowers!
Mid to late May for Strawberries

San Antonio Area For Berry Picking
• Strawberry Farm – Poteet, Texas
Strawberries
You’ll find a world of strawberries in this small, quiet community south of downtown San Antonio in Poteet, TX. After all, the town is known as the Strawberry Capital of Texas. Strawberry picking starts in the spring and is just in time for the Texas bluebonnets to bloom.
The Poteet Strawberry Festival is in April.
Notes: Wild Berry Farms in Sadler, one hour north of Dallas, no longer allows you to pick your own berries; however, you can buy packaged fruit from their farm.
Duck Creek Farm in Sanger, TX, no longer raises blackberries.
