Things To Do For Spring Break in Texas
Spring break at any beach is busy during this time, which is considered “peak season,” so if you’re not going or not planning a beach vacation for spring break, save these beach trips for early summer. Or, if you’re not ready to go on a Texas spring break trip, bookmark this info for a summer vacation!
When Florida beaches say, “We don’t want spring breakers,” Texas will take you! Be safe!

South Padre Island
Spend spring break near the shore banks, as their ads say. South Padre spring break has long been an excellent place for spring breakers. With miles and miles of warm and sunny Gulf Coast beaches, it’s no wonder many travelers traverse here every spring break in Texas. Plus, hotels offer spring break packages, so check that out.
While there, look up ‘how to build a sand castle’ or ‘where to make sand castles.’ This outdoor activity is enjoyable for all ages.
Ask about South Padre spring break packages. They are ready for college students.

Galveston
It is another excellent beach destination that attracts visitors during spring break. While you’re there, you may want to visit Galveston’s Historic Pleasure Pier with a roller coaster, all kinds of rides for the kiddos, carnival games, restaurants, and places to shop for souvenirs and gifts. I love dining at one of Galveston’s seafood restaurants for my favorite seafood dinner – blackened salmon.
Katy (Houston Area)
If you haven’t heard of Dig World, it is Texas’s first heavy construction equipment-themed amusement park. The 3.5-acre+ site is a can’t-miss attraction for families, especially those looking for something unique to do over spring break. Perfect for the younger kids.
Dig World is designed to provide a safe, hands-on experience for families, offering the unique opportunity to operate heavy equipment, including full-size Caterpillar mini-excavators, skid steers, and UTVs. Other attractions include a gem mining station, a playground, and a turf field with games.
Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi offers beach after beach and plenty of places along the coast with much to do.
- Padre Balli Park is a 400-acre coast known for surfing, shore fishing, and the Bob Hall Pier, which extends 1250 feet into the Gulf. It would make an excellent walk for many, me included.
- North Packery Beach is famous for surfing, jet skiing, kiteboarding (whatever that is), and wakeboarding. And bring your pole; fishing in warm water is good, too.
- Mustang Island is the most-searched beach in Corpus Christi online. You know it’ll be packed this year, especially since the state park is also here. Bring binoculars; I read that birding is good and that you may see other wildlife in the distance. If you like to kayak, check out the Mustang Island Paddling Trail, consisting of trails that take you on a journey.
- Whitecap Beach is a beautiful, white-sand beach suitable for small groups or individuals. Bring your bike, jog, or walk around here.
- And there’s also Padre Island National Seashore, North Beach, and McGee Beach.
My dream activity is to go horseback riding along the beach, and this is something to do here and in SPI. I finally did this (2022) on Brazosport’s Country Beach (Galveston area).
Port Aransas
Beachgoers love the miles of sunny beaches, nature preserves, and waterways. Port Aransas is a smaller beach and could be less crowded than its neighboring beaches. You’ll need to get a beach parking pass before you arrive. I’ve read that there are many birds to watch for, so bring your binoculars.
Port Arthur – Cajun Capital of Texas
As you know, Port Arthur was named the Cajun Capital of Texas. If your family loves Cajun food, plan your spring break to come to this town. You’ll have plenty of options for great food. Additionally, Sea Rim State Park is nearby, as is a museum and Pleasure Island.

Visit A State Park in Texas for Spring Break
State parks make great spring break ideas for nature lovers who love to wander the nature trails that all state parks provide, especially if you’re on a budget. You can either Google “Texas state parks near me” or go here – TexasStateParks.gov and type in the location you are searching. Some state parks will host special events during spring break, so be sure to check for them.
Not sure if you knew, but tent camping is on the rise for families. It’s a great outdoor activity to make memories. Tent camping doesn’t have to be expensive. FYI – no dogs in Texas State Parks.

Texas Hill Country
Central Texas, home to the Texas Hill Country, is a popular destination year-round for any reason, but spring break is a strong draw. There will be special events, live music, and wineries to visit.
Johnson City is one of the Hill Country destinations not to miss (my favorite small town in the Hill Country). It’s a small but mighty town offering visitors a place to relax and enjoy views of the vast countryside, plus many wineries on Hwy 290 and downtown.
Speaking of Texas State Parks, Pedernales State Park, located in Johnson City, is a beautiful park year-round. Note: Make online reservations to visit, as it can get busy, and they limit the number of people on any given day.
Spring Break in Austin
I’m sure Sixth Street will be hectic, as many high school students flock there every chance they get, plus college students roaming the streets. And no doubt, Lake Travis will be booming with boats and other watercraft. Call me old, but if I were to go here during spring break, I would have to find a peaceful cabin in the woods with plenty of amenities and stay there until it’s over…but that’s just me.

Enjoy Resort Life at Lake Texoma
Did you know there is a beautiful resort near Lake Texoma?
Lake Texoma is great for boating, fishing, swimming, and camping for spring break. Finding a cabin near the lake or in the woods would be perfect. Check out Tanglewood Resort on Lake Texoma. It would make an excellent place for the whole family to spend spring break – it was so much fun there!

Horseshoe Bay Resort – Hill Country (Marble Falls)
This Spring Break, Horseshoe Bay Resort is redefining the game with exciting new offerings that transform the Texas Hill Country into the ultimate family escape.
Kids—and anyone still young at heart—will love the brand-new Whitewater Arcade, packed with everything from retro favorites to the latest high‑tech games. After sunset, gather the whole family for a Dark Skies Star Party, where astronomers use giant telescopes to guide guests through constellations and cosmic stories. It’s a screen‑free moment of wonder that sparks curiosity and lights up imaginations.
The Jungle Kids Club offers hourly “stay and play” so parents can enjoy what they love — whether some R&R, golf, boating, or a break at the pool — while the kids enjoy supervised fun.
To make your getaway even more compelling, the resort is also offering a Buy Two Nights, Get the Third Night Free promotion for Spring Break stays.
Float the San Marcos River
If floating in a freezing river is your thing, consider spending time in San Marcos. Other activities in this area include shopping, hiking, picnicking, and playing fetch with your dog.

Tube The Rivers in New Braunfels
Natural Bridge Caverns, with its zip line course, would be an excellent choice for my family, as would tubing down the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. As long as the weather is nice, this area would make an excellent choice for spring breakers. Check out what other activities and things to do in New Braunfels.
Stroll The San Antonio Riverwalk
The San Antonio River Walk is the top destination in Texas and one of the top places to visit for spring breakers. It will likely be crowded, so planning is vital to having a good time.
Kids of all ages will love Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and yes, it’s open for spring break. In recent articles, Texas Travel Talk has covered The Westin Riverwalk San Antonio and the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter.

JW Marriott San Antonio
Spring Break at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is the ultimate family escape, with sunny days, big splashes, and nonstop adventures included. The resort’s nine-acre River Bluff Water Experience is the star of the season, with an 1,100 foot-long lazy river for floating, intense slides for thrill-seekers, and an adults-only infinity pool for parents who need a moment of quiet.
Daily fun includes scavenger hunts, sandcastle contests, stargazing on the back lawn, outdoor movies, nightly s’mores, arcade games, fitness classes, and plenty of surprises sprinkled throughout the week. Parents can sneak away to the award-winning TPC San Antonio for a tee time or unwind at the luxurious Lantana Spa while younger travelers team up to burn energy on the pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts.
Two spring travel packages make the getaway even sweeter: a glamping-themed suite experience complete with an indoor tent and take-home goodies for young adventurers, and a Hill Country Retreat package offering nightly food & beverage credits to enjoy the resort’s lineup of restaurants.
Spring Break in Waco
Waco is an excellent destination for everyone. Magnolia Market has a vast lawn in the center of it all, perfect for picnics and yard games, so get there early for a spot on the grass –– bring a blanket to sit on. Also, shops and more food trucks are lined up than ever before. And don’t forget about the Dr. Pepper Museum, where they indeed sell the soda in those old bottles! Peruse downtown Waco, too.
Cameron Park Zoo is also there.

Dogwood Blooms in Palestine, TX
Our spring break ideas wouldn’t be complete without highlighting the Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration in Palestine, TX. I visited the Dogwoods a couple of years ago with my mother, and we had a fabulous time.

Great Wolf Lodge – Grapevine, TX
The Great Wolf Lodge Grapevine’s annual Spring Breakout celebration is in March.
The indoor water park resort just outside Dallas offers a close, convenient, and carefree getaway for families, with access to the always 84-degree water park and fun-filled Spring Breakout activities, all under one roof.
The limited-time spring celebration features elaborate decor inspired by the forest’s reawakening, springtime crafts and stories, seasonal-themed games, including NEW spring Tic-Tac-Toe and Bingo, sunshine dance parties, and more to bond your Pack between splash sessions.

Great Wolf Lodge – Webster, TX
Did you know there is a Great Wolf Lodge between Houston and Galveston? It’s been there for about 3 years now. My son and I had the privilege to visit when it opened. He had a wonderful time. We went during their Great Wolf Lodge Halloween Week and got to gather a bunch of treats and costume fun!
