Best Things To Do in Boerne for Families

See the best, stay at the best, and create memories with the family on this side of the Hill Country.

Boerne is a Texas Hill Country charmer known for its “Hill Country Mile” (Main Street) lined with shops, boutiques, restaurants, and more. The town is south of the charming town of Kerrville and 25 minutes north of San Antonio, making it a great day trip from the big city. Here are our top recommendations for things to do in Boerne, TX, for families.

You’ll be in awe of the beautiful flowers, ponds, gardens, and public art up and down Main Street.

Top Things To Do in Boerne For Families

The beautiful Cibolo Creek is a true Hill Country gem and one of my favorite places to visit. Shopping on Main Street, aka Hill Country Mile, is another gem, and the perfect gathering place for a weekend of shopping, sipping, and relaxing with family.

Best Things To Do in Boerne for Families

Old Jail Museum

The Kendall County Historic Jail was built in 1887 and sat there for years before being converted into the Old Jail Museum. Don’t miss the museum, especially if you’re into Texas history.

Adults are $5, and children under 12 and Law Enforcement are free. Address: 208 E. San Antonio Ave.

Boerne Park Lake

Parks in Boerne

Arrows Active Play Park is Boerne’s indoor destination for open play, memorable birthday parties, and family fun in any weather. Children enjoy a safe, engaging play space while parents relax with comfortable seating and a full café.

Boerne City Lake Park sits just a mile northwest of town, along Upper Cibolo Creek Road, and offers residents and visitors a wide range of outdoor recreation options.

River Road Park is another one to check out.

Cooper’s Kingdom

Arcade, mini-golf, family-fun. Can’t go wrong here entertaining the kids. Address: 129 Old San Antonio Rd.

Cibolo Nature Center

Bring a picnic and let the kids flutter around in nature. Walk the small trail and enjoy the outdoor education all around. Cibolo Nature Center is a world of outdoor adventure for the whole family. We recommend not missing this attraction… and it’s free.

Bonus if you go on a Saturday when the farmers’ market is going on.

Cave Without A Name

Eleven miles outside of Boerne, you can take a guided tour of Cave Without a Name and step into a hidden world where moonshiners once slipped through the shadows. The cave’s chambers are filled with striking formations, and the stories behind them add a surprising layer of history to the experience. There’s a story behind the name – be sure and ask them about it. Reservations are recommended.

For those who want to linger longer, the property also features camping areas and hiking trails, giving you even more ways to enjoy the landscape above the cave.

Cascade Caverns

Cascade Caverns is a historically, geologically, and biologically significant limestone cave three miles south of Boerne.

Hill Country Mile

Shop and stroll in the historic art district. There is something for all ages along the one-mile or so Main Street. Shop up and down the road and both sides, but don’t miss some favorite shops and stops on the side roads?

Located inside one of the town’s oldest historic buildings, The Dienger Trading Co. is a darling place to shop for trendy women’s, men’s, and baby clothing. And while you’re there, enjoy breakfast or lunch in the bistro.

A Little Nature Store is full of garden accessories, but what’s more fun is the garden outside. Sit on the benches and listen to the water fountains’ calming trinkles, while watching your kids play.

Pixie & La Te Da are very “girlie” boutiques.

At Flashback Funtiques, you’ll want to reminisce as you stroll through the store.

Bear Moon Bakery Cafe – skip lunch and buy the cookie!

And so many more boutiques, shops, restaurants, beer joints, and more on the Hill Country Mile.

Cibolo Trail

Beautiful Cibolo Trail is located downtown, where you can walk around the creek. Picnic tables, benches along the way, fishing piers, and a boardwalk can all be found on the trail. Plus, see the ducks waddle to and fro into the water and back.

Boerne Taco House

Where To Eat In Boerne, TX

The town of Boerne has a slew of restaurants to choose from. Below are the fun ones for the family and for kiddos to enjoy. It’s family time in Boerne!

Family-Friendly Places to Stay in Boerne

The Bevy Hilton Double Tree Hotel in Boerne, TX

The Bevy

Just five minutes from downtown Boerne, The Bevy offers easy access to local charm along with an outdoor pool and all‑day dining.

Every stay starts with a warm, signature welcome cookie.

The Kendall Inn

The Kendall Inn is a historic boutique hotel along the banks of Cibolo Creek. It offers luxurious accommodations for unique getaways and has a fascinating history dating back to the 1800s, when an underground tunnel connected to the Deinger Trading Co.

The Kendall offers adorable suites and guest rooms, creating a wonderful, historically charming place to stay right off Main Street. And …keys to your room—yes, the old-fashioned way.

The Kendall has the most tranquil gated courtyard that I’ve ever seen. I would love for my front yard to look half as good as this. Mixed hanging plants and flowers, antiques throughout the lawns, a white gazebo, post lamps that keep the courtyard bright at night, and the dipping pool (a small pool) make this place a perfect getaway for a quaint and relaxing stay. There is direct access to the Heart of Boerne Trail, which begins on the Inn’s grounds on the banks of Cibolo Creek.

Amenities at The Kendall:

  • Free Wifi
  • Flat-screen TV
  • Cable TV
  • Concierge Services
  • Outdoor Pool (a small dipping pool)
  • Outdoor Fireplace in the common area
  • Walking Trail to the Cibilo Creek

The History of The Kendall

The historic hotel dates back to 1859, when the Reed family bought the land for only $200. The Reeds rented out their spare bedrooms to stagecoach travelers and many famous people, including President Eisenhower. The German name is Ye Kendall Inn. Many original antiques adorn the property throughout, and many are still in working condition, including door knobs, doors, and windows.

Don’t miss these things to do in Boerne for families—each one captures the charm, flavor, and spirit of the Hill Country.
